Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois

Well it turned out my son didn't need the wheels he blew the engine in his truck but I was able to sell it for more than I bought it for and that gave him enough for a down payment on a 2005 VW GLI.

I finally got a couple of the wheels mounted here are a few pix

The 17's look much better than the 15's

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois

Saturday I pulled the front end apart to paint and do some repair on the core support. Laid out the fenders and I found a bunch of California Nuts in the pockets.
Looks like the PO was going to do a quick paint and sell it.

Had a problem getting the screws out of the head light ring they wanted to twist the whole ring so I pulled my handy dandy little tool my son got me watch the video. let me know what you think.

I also used it to heat the nuts on the exhaust manifolds of my 95 it took about 10 to 15 seconds to get them cherry red.

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois

Here is the web site for the tool. http://www.theinductor.com/index.php
It is a local company family owned and operated, I can't say enough about the men that run it, just great people. They helped my son Tony grow a lot I owe these guys a great deal in the development of my son they mentored him and made him feel important to the company and showed him that with more responsibility you get more money. Tony asked them about buying one for me a couple of years a go for Christmas and he wanted to make payments ($500) they said OK as it turned out they never charged him for it.

I think Snap-On sells them now but then the price would probably double compared a distributor. Did the same thing with the hood bump stop it was frozen in with a little heat it came right out.

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois

Finally getting some work done sand blasted and primed the grill mounts and the core support a few weeks ago then it got cold. Yesterday was warm so I got everything set up and painted it all Hot Rod Black. With the humidity and rain today I'm going to let everything sit where they are till mid week if the storms don't blow it away tonight. Got the body mounts and core supports from Brothers not very happy with it they want you to reuse the square washers and large washers and bolts that are for the core support, REALLY 42yro parts. Another lesson need to read every word or call to verify every thing. Also ordered a radio from them 3wk back order very frustrated with them and the bolts and washers I need I would have to go to LMC to get or buy another core support kit.

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois

Progress is in the making, I got the core support, radiator, and inner fenders mounted and actually pulled it out of the garage so I could hunt for more parts. I bought some 7/16 X 3 bolts for the core support mounts they worked just fine so now it is on to the front fenders to clean the surface rust inside of then prime and put some body color on them if the weather warms up. I’m taking out the plastic grill insert and going to try and polish out the grill of all the little road pits, anybody have ideas on how to do it maybe sand it with 1500 or 2000 grit and some good rubbing compound or metal polish.

Got 2 weeks then off to Mesa & Phoenix AZ for 13days can't wait I have a nephew getting married just about everyone from my side of the family will be there 6 of us will be on the same plane on he way out. My grand son is driving down from Layton Utah haven't seen him in 2yrs., sister, nieces and their kids, haven’t seen them in probably 5 years. Then mid week I am going to visit a friend I haven’t seen for 35 yrs that builds V8 Motorcycles called Side Winders because they set in the frame side ways, crazy bikes.

The one Kevin’s bike took first place at the Pomona Grand National Roadster Show in the Radical Custom bike class

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois

Crappy weather for the weekend but on the bright side I finally got the radio so I worked in the garage and started putting the dash together. Not real happy with the radio the nobs don't recess so the nut are visible but for $150 instead of $500 I guess it will do.

Wade, jlsanborn,
That is the same thing I asked him he said the small block isn't bad as long as you are moving, that is his regular driver. The big block was his money maker in the 80's doing 1/4 mile smoke shows at the local drag strips till he hit some fuel that was on the track left by a jet dragster, he said when he got out of the hospital his money was gone and so was his wife.

More than likely he wore a fire suit doing that so the family jewels were protected and I don’t think he would have wanted to do a wheelie on it. If you want to see more of his stuff go to www.V-8motorcycle.com

Oh yea he is 62yrs old and working on building something that is totaly insane starting next year sometime, the rear tire is off a Championship winning Funny Car!

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois

A friend of mine bought the bike below a long time ago from a guy named Dan Bowker. It's a 12' long 427 ford cammer nitro burning beast with a 12" drag slick on the back. When I met Dan he was probably in his sixties and still crazy as hell. He had a twin turbo jet boat, a twin turbo lamborghini kit car and a 40 ford on a tube chasis built by a Nascar company. He told stories of doing exhibition runs on the bike smoking the tire the entire quarter. He put a parachute from a funny car on the back to add to the show. He said the first time he went through the traps at 170 and pulled the chute the bike disappeared from underneath him. After sliding down the track at 170 on his belly he had a chute specially made for the weight of the bike.

I don't know if my buddy still has it but it was kinda neat to be able to just do a search and find pictures of it. I painted the frame and it was one of the hardest things I ever painted, tubes suck! There's no way my friend would have ever ridden it, but I do wonder if he ever put it back together.

That is wild I'll have to ask Tom if he knows it he's been in racing for a long time.

Project is looking good! Anxious to see some photos of that radiator support. What's left to finish her up? Do you have the remaining trim pieces?

I'll see about some pix tonight I have the trim just not sure if I am going to use them or buy new ones they are scratched up pretty bad on the black.. Did a little touch up on the front fenders, left rocker and lower left door (the white part).had some bubbles on the rocker so I ground that off and found some pin holes and the front fenders the same thing the front pockets were full of California nuts so I cleaned them up and painted then yesterday, going to start putting the fenders back on today painted all the brackets and fender wells back in the spring and mounted the core support and the fender wells so I can drive it in and out of the garage

Looking at getting a one wire alternator so I can get rid of some wires and that regulator box under the hood and be a little more reliable and I’m going to run the wires inside the fenders along with the heater hoses . Going to see if I can clean up the grill with some 1500 grit and rubbing compound.

I still have the interior to do looking for a seat or buckets out of a 93 to 2000, the backs seem to be a little thinner so I can get a little more leg room. I need Shocks , sway bar installed, radiator hoses replaced, buff out the grill and a bunch of other little stuff that seems to take for ever. But right now I am shooting for the end of July if life doesn’t get in the way

jlsanborn, here 's my core support and fender wells I was going to put the fenders back on today but a new brain storm moved in. Those wires you see on top of the core support will be moving underneath

Re: 70 C/10 from Cali to Illinois

Need some opinions on what you guys think of the trim with out paint, I have a bunch of extra trim so I think I can find enough to get a good set but all of them have scratches.
