Transmission Questions

I just recently bought a 67 C10, I am currently in the process of rebuilding it and am working on the transmission right now but running in to a few issues. I had originally thought it was a saginaw 3 speed but I am having problems getting the main shaft out of the trans. The manuals i have found for the saginaw said you need to remove a c-clip and slide the reverse idler out of the way but it doesn't have on nor could it be moved if it did. So i am now thinking it is not a saginaw but it doesn't appear to be a muncie nor a borg warner based on pictures i have seen. i was told the 350 came out of a 72 c10 and that the trans was original.

the numbers on the case that i can find read: M2P03A, the tag from the side cover is 3980810Y and the tail only has GM6 on it. 7 bolt side over and the trans is fully synchronized.

any help would be nice i can post pictures of the inside of the case if needed

thanks

Re: Transmission Questions

If it's a 7 bolt side cover with two of those bolts horizontal parallel at the top of the cover it's an M13 Muncie HD three speed. That's the correct transmission that would have come in a '69 - '72 with a 350 or 396. A really husky and strong 3 speed. Much stronger than a typical Saginaw 3 speed which is no weak box in it's own right.

Re: Transmission Questions

yes it has 2 bolts on the top of the cover, 1 on each side and 3 on the bottom portion of the cover. Thanks for the insight on that. So I'm assuming that i will need to remove the bar that is holding the reverse idler to remove the main shaft then?

Re: Transmission Questions

I've never had one of those apart so I can't help you with that info. That transmission should certainly be covered in the factory service - overhaul manuals of the era.
