steering wheel

Newbi here with 1970 GMC 1500. want a smaller steering wheel, like 14 inch or so. What wheel will work from other GM vehicles will work? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Pretty sure any gm wheel will work up to 1995. Trevor

You can get steering wheels from fssteeringwheels.com. Just be sure to add on the A01 adapter.

Any GM wheel will work up to the time of the airbag. Fact is the wheels after the bags were put in will work to but there just isn't a newer wheel that feels right in our truck.

I have a 79 Z/28 wheel I going to try out, its about 12 or 13 inch and I'll keep the Z/28 emblem for looks

Here is a wheel from a 92 GMC Safari Van in my old 70 GMC. Unsure of the diameter but you can see how the old cracked wheel fits over it.

If going away from stock, the early 90s truck wheels are pretty decent.

Wow. That steering wheel looks really nice. Sadly Chevrolet didn't use the same wheel design for the astro cause that would be a nice replacement for my current steering wheel.

They did use that wheel on the Astro van just the lower trimmed ones. the upper trim trucks of that day [along with the trucks and the vans] Used the 4 spoke wheel. It is very popular and looks good on these trucks.The wheel in the above pics could be found with Chevy center cap or the GMC one also you could get that wheel out of a S-10 from about 86 through about 92 or 3. I used to throw those away from truck i junked I junked way over a 100 S-10 through out the years and tossed that type of wheel away. and later on the other types too now wishing I hadn't cause they look more than ok in the old C-10's

+1 I had the above style in an 87 lower trim level s-10 blazer as well. The truck wheels I spoke of earlier are the same as the 4 spoke Astro/s-10 wheels Jim spoke of.

There were 3 (possibly 4) variations of the 88-94 4-spoke wheel used depending on Chevy truck/SUV/van model and trim level that I am aware of. These 3 and my original are pictured below along with a pristine Blazer LT version installed in my truck. The Chevy center caps came in at least 2 versions. Some caps did not have the horizontal lines. GMC version caps were also available. The later wheels were 15" vs. 17" on the originals. In my opinion, the nicest of the newer 4-spoke versions was the leather wrapped versions used on 92-94 S10 LT Blazers (second and last pics). These had a little more class and a fatter rim and I which prefer.

That said, it's really hard to beat the more period correct Comfort Grip wheels used in Vettes, Camaros and Chevelles.

If you are ambitious you could modify the stock wheel. There are threads on the board showing how guys have done it.

I have an early 90's pkup wheel for my 69. I prefer a 3 spoke but these 4 spokes look good, feel good and still allow good instrument panel view. And the smaller diameter give just a bit more entry room.

Just my opinion, I love the stock wheel! A big part of my enjoyment of my truck is the feeling of driving a piece of history. My only upgrades are to the suspension and stereo.

A major reason I own the truck is because my dad had one when I was younger. And I play George Jones, Hank, and Waylon in my truck also!
