A pillar drip rail removal - DIY

This is actually pretty easy. Wedging the putty knife helps prevent cutting into the A pillar. Repop drip rails are available from vendors. Once I make the repair, I'll add to this post.

Thanks Woog! Looking back at picture #5 - it seems that I spelled supply wrong. LOL!

Any chance the moderator would let me correct that photo?

The text was added to your photo.

You will need to correct the text in the photo, and upload it to photobucket again.

Then edit that post to change the url ....

Tony at 4-5-6 Chevy Trucks sells them for $40 delivered. Other vendors have them too but I think he has the best price. You can drill holes in them and then weld them to the A pillar. If you have a metal brake, you could fab some out of sheet metal but they would not be EXACTLY like factory, but close. Depends on how picky you wanna be.

The method of installation and factory design of these drip rails makes them a water trap. Once the seam sealer cracks enough for water to get in, the rust will never stop. Some folks delete them, but that might create other issues with the door seal etc.

I plan to put mine back on. I'll post picks when I do.

Re: A pillar drip rail removal - DIY

Do the drip rails matter much only for driving in the rain or will there be door seal issues even if its just parked in the rain without those drip rails?
I wonder how much wind noise they are responsible for.

Re: A pillar drip rail removal - DIY

Installation methods?

I was thinking to pop-rivot in place or possibly using body panel adhesive.
Thinking the adhesive may be the way to go. The stuff is solid; If i glue in the entire face of the rail to the A pillar it would be 100% sealed up

Something besides spot welding back

Here’s a link to my original photos in case photobucket goes down. I no longer have an active photobucket account but my website is always best anyway.

I have so much from your website bookmarked! Thanks for the write up. Did you weld yours back in place?

Re: A pillar drip rail removal - DIY

I was originally going to leave mine off but it would take a lot of metal work to make the door and the a pillar lineup so it looks right so I glued them back on I don’t think it would have any thing to do with how the door seals

Re: A pillar drip rail removal - DIY

I’d move it up. There should be a small drip hole in the roof rail too.
