Well, good luck with it when you get to it after the other builds come together....and keep us posted on it when you do start working on it again. It is great to read about all the trucks you guys work and wrench on to make them nice!

Re: '66 GMC BBW w/351E and Factory Buckets

After letting this one sit for about a year I decided to try to break into her.

Without the proper knowledge to work on one of these motors my only bet is to find someone who is A LOT better than me. Haha

After I got that little spark back up I decide to do some trading for a short term motor so I could get it back on the road while I figure out the problem with the 351

Now I know I'll catch hell from the purists on here but the 351 is going back in one day and the truck will get a proper resto. But until I'm older, wiser, and not "college kid broke" I'm going to do the best I can with what I've got!! Lol

Now back to the new motor, I managed to turn 100$ into an '86 350 bored .030 over, 288 cam, vortec heads, and all new accessories through a few trades over the past month. It needs a little tuning but it was just rebuilt. Anyways, here are a few pics!!

Don't feel bad dude... it's your truck to do as you see fit ...
Personally, I stay as far away from SBC as I can because everyone does it, it's all you see... and I rarely follow the leader..
HOWEVER, as I said.. it's your ride.. get-er on the road however you want or can...

Haha you wouldn't want to pay what I'd want out of it. But I'm going to get it rebuilt as soon as I can afford it and drop her back in.

Really nice truck!

May not be a bad idea to troubleshoot the V6 as time allows so you can keep an eye open for parts needed.

I just picked one up that isnt as well optioned as yours, but has the same seats and trim. Do you know much more about the seat package at all?

The special seats were a 1966 only option you could add to any 66 GMC but when paired with a 351 V6 and special interior treatments, it was called the "sport" option package - I used to have a magazine advertisement showing a 351 V6 equipped 66 GMC w/ these seats and other options racing against a Camaro and pulling ahead of it in the photo - it was the coolest ad, but the framing shop destroyed it accidentally and I have yet to find another since.

The sport optioned trucks came with Charcoal stick-on vinyl lower door coverings, and the door panels were covered in Charcoal vinyl, and it was the first time GM ever offered carpet in a truck - these Sport package equipped trucks came with Charcoal carpeting, coordinating darker non-fawn interior paint and Charcoal armrests and visors. Typically the Turbo 400 was part of this package, but I have seen some with Powerglides, so not sure if they got swapped years later or if they came that way. Very hard to find anyone who knows anything about the Sport package or its options.

Factory adaptors?

I'm afraid you missed my other posts regarding the V6. The V6's are low rpm high torque engines, similar to large diesel truck engines. They run forever at low rpms, however, they do not like high rpm! The best way to destroy a V6 is excessive rpm, they spin bearings.

Page 1 post # 19. Hard to believe for most, but GMC beat out Chevy by one year by offering this new package in '66.

Yes they used a factory adapter and these support rods. Not sure if the Powerglides used those.

The sports trim option was available on 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton trucks with 2 wheel drive. It did not matter which motor and transmission was ordered. The sports option also was not available on 4x4's, 1 tons or suburbans. All of this info came out of the 1966 Light Duty Condensed Data Book. I also have the advertisement that you had and will post a pic of it.

My son actually sold this truck today...local enthusiast is building it for he and his son. His plans are to rebuild the 351 and keep the original patina.

I know a guy who is looking for one of these adaptor setups if you or anyone else has one to sell
