Thanks! I plan on running a vented gas cap. I haven't had issues with the K10, but I'll have to keep it in mind.

For me it didn't matter what side it was on, because I'll have to modify the bed / fill anyways. Mostly it was how it clocked the fuel pump module line output.

Maybe it is just a small town problem for me. I live in a town with two gas stations and there is often a line. It really screws things up when your filler is on the "wrong" side.

Copy that! It's never really been an issue so I didn't think much about it.

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1

Brake line time on Goldy! I'm really digging this brake line kit from S.U.R.&.R it made it easy to do the brake lines, and had all the fittings necessary. I went a bit further by going with an adapter at the front port of the master which reduced the 1/4" 9/16 -18 to 3/16" 3/8 -24. It probably would have sealed without the reducer but I got one anyways. I'm going to run the same one at the back of the proportion valve.

Nice job on the brake lines! That flexible line looks like the way to go if I ever have to do something like this.

It nice, if you make a bend the wrong way, just bend it back. The line in the kit was thick and it would be hard to kink!

Thanks brother! I probably could have used most of the old stuff, since it looked ok, but figured with the age I might as well.

You made it look easy to work with. I like the new Live chat format and my only comment is that you get too far from your microphone at times. keep up the good work.

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1

Well, I suppose it's time for an update! I took a little break from the truck, and then got back on it hard, because the weather was nice, and I didn't want to wait till it was 110 outside. The goal was to get it running and driving and then worry about cosmetic stuff. So I pushed hard on it, finished the brake / fuel lines, interior, engine wiring etc. Drove around for a bit and then installed vintage air. She was a bit sluggish with TH400 and stock converter so I decided to throw a Hughes 2500 in there and wow, then I got it tuned and she is woke for sure. Here are a few videos of the progress.

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1

Goldy turned out great! The videos are awesome as usual. I’m glad you made it a tow rig. It looks too clean for a rock crawler! Do you still have the white flatbed for towing?

I’m interested in how you like the LS with the TH400. I have the same transmission. Maybe some day I’ll do an LS swap!

Thanks brother! I do have the flat bed, but it's just sitting around. I don't mind the TH400, I can roll 70-75 with no problems. In fact I've never had overdrive with one of my swaps.

I didn't realize you were on here Dave. Good to see it towed the jeep well! Might look cooler if it was towing the K10 Crawler, but I'll give you a pass. Wheeling is wheeling. It's just cooler in a squarebody!

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1

I got Goldy, wired up with a brake control, and charge line, borrowed my buddies trailer and hit the road. I was very happy with the way the K20 handled towing the Jeep.

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1

whitels1, Did you keep the original TH400 when swapping to the LS engine? If the 305 in my '81 K10 is no good I'm thinking of dropping a 5.3 in there but don't want to disturb the transmission/transfer case and driveshafts.

It's not the original, but you should be able to drop in an LS without moving any of that stuff.

Sweet video! Looks like your boy had a good time! Not many people have a tow vehicle that’s 40 years older than their rock crawler. You still got the k10 crawler?

Thanks Greenlee, the boy loves the old truck, and crawling around in the Jeep, I wish we could do it more! I love to do things backwards, if you didn't know I still have the K10, I told the boy it's his and when I feel like he is ready we will start building on it, we have lots to do so he can learn along the way. I gotta teach him right so he can work on my stuff when I'm old and tired!

Re: 79 K20 Custom Deluxe - Goldy LS1

Making some progress on sound deadening, used a product called Noico, decent price and worked well. I talk about it a bunch in the video, but they recommend to use Noico closed cell foam over top, and wow is it making a difference and keeping things cooler in the cab.
