High temp ceramic coatings

At a glance there appears to be two choices, Jet-Hot and Cerakote.

Nice thing about Carakote is there's a shop 60 miles from me and it's near half the cost. Counting shipping it's far cheaper than Jet-Hot. Downside is he only has two colors, black and titanium, but I think they'd work for my exhaust manifolds (titanium), heat stove and stove pipe (black). A picture of the two colors below.

Jet-Hot offers a lot more colors. The Cast Iron is nice. https://www.jet-hot.com/colors/

Seems like a no-brainer, run with the local. Anyone use either one or?

Pretty nice, but if you mean that picture (Cerakote), he only offers the two colors on the right.

Re: High temp ceramic coatings

FWIW I used jet hot on a set of long tube headers for my camaro 8-9 years ago, the coating on the tubes and flanges looks really good but it has started flaking and peeling off around the collectors. Car is stored insided at all times and not driven in the rain. I figured that it would fatigue over time but I think it’s excessive. Almost looks like the surface prep was the issue. They were brand new raw steel headers when I sent them out to be coated. Lots of diesel guys around here run the cerakote stuff. It looks awesome but I don’t have any long term experience with that brand of coatings.

This guy is local to me and I see tons of people use him for his coatings. He has a nice set up and plenty of colors to choose from. His name is Chance.

Thumbs up Re: High temp ceramic coatings

I have used Cerakote on my turbo car (Grand National) on the headers, downpipe and turbo housing. Black color.

My local guy put it on 3 years ago and it is still holding up well and really cuts down on the under hood temps.

Re: High temp ceramic coatings

Seems people have had better results with Cerakote than Jet-Coat.

Luck has it there's a Cerakote coater two miles from me, he's coming over tomorrow to see what I've got. Sounds like a good guy. The former came across as peculiar, secretive and paranoid

Ha! That is kinda how my Cerakote guy acted.

Maybe there is something in the ceramic powder?

Re: High temp ceramic coatings

I did my headers at home. Bought the material from Cerakote hi temp. I used the Glacier Silver in air dry. I bought a pint but used 8 oz. The pint was $70.00. There is a place in the Milwaukee area called U-Spray. They rent blaster time. It took about 20 minutes to blast the set. They charge $2.00 per minute. The headers were done in April of 2017 and they still look great.

Re: High temp ceramic coatings

i recommend you check out Finish Line Coatings in the Portland OR. area. They have several options of colors including black and a almost chrome appearing silver. They claim their black coating will block 75% of the heat. I am real pleased with the coating they did for me. I don't have the car anymore or any pictures of the work.

Nice. After the conversation today with the guy Cerakoting these parts, the exhaust manifolds will be in that silver. Pretty close to original appearing. Glad I found this guy, he's as meticulous as they come. I'm having the BBC exhaust shield done as well, black like the stove & pipe.

Speak of stove pipes...............I asked a carb. builder about divorce choke Vs electric. Told him I was using the stove, which may be just for appearances. He says stick with the divorce choke, which I know nothing about, because it was removed a long time ago. So here's the Cerakote that reduces heat. I may buy a water pump that reduces heat as well. Seems to me a divorce choke may not work right after all.
