Everyone,

Been a long time! The board has changed soooo much since I've last posted! I bet I haven't posted in a year. I can't believe i've been too busy to check things out. Should never happen! Things look really great around the board lots of nice changes!

Question:

My fuel guage when the tank is full goes way over full. The guage stays there until the tank is almost empty and then drops to the empty mark. Sometimes while driving the guage will go to the normal reading position and then go to the way over full mark.

sounds like the sender inside the tank is getting corroded or just plain worn out.

Hey steve, was thinking of you again as I drove through NU this week. When you fix your gas gauge problem would you fix mine in the snow plow truck too? Exact same problem. Thanks!

When a gas gauge reads "past full", that means there is an open connection. You have a poor connection or an occasionally-broken wire. Could be a bad ground or loose plug or dangling connector or a mashed wire.

Hey da-burb hows things? I'm still workin on that 68. Needed to come back to the board to get motivated! I think of ya once an awhile when I hear your name around town.

I got a gauge with a new sender in but still goes way past full, but does work and moves down as i burn the gas up. I did notice that when it gets real cold the gage bottoms out to the full side then i turn the heater off it goes back to normal. What may be the cause of both these problems, all new wires in truck.

BMG, you need to ground your insterment panel better. I piece of wire going from the metal backing of the panel and run to the dash or pedal assembly oughta do the trick.

I think it's a bad ground, too. It might be quicker to install new grounds: frame to eng; battery to body; truck bed to frame, etc. Let us inow when you find the fix!

This is a complete reconstruction everything is new.....that is what is so puzzling

Some times on a frame off, you'll get paint where two pieces of metal connect, and that had been used as a ground. Once the paint is insulating it, you don't get the proper current flow and it causes funny things.
