2000 suburban runs fine then dies, until mass airflow is removed

So I've got a 2000 chevy suburban that runs fine normally, but recently it started acting up on trips. It will start to die and idle really low. Then you shut it off Nd wait and it will run for a min then die. However if you remove the mass aiflow it runs just underpowered , but I bought I new sensor and it does the same ? I've looked for an answr and haven't found anything I know this site is the best and someone knows!? Also sometimes if I play with the 4x4 it will start and go ... Anyone?
