Play in new locking hubs

I recently installed new Mile Marker Supreme hubs on my 72 GMC. yesterday I noticed one had a small gap between the cap and the hub, the cap was out far enough that I could see the O ring. I checked all the screws and they were tight, I then checked the other side and it has the same gap. They function perfectly but I'm afraid dirt will make it past the O ring easier.
When I replaced my old ones, I used the new outer split ring included in the kit, it was made of round stock instead of the flat stock that was on the original. I'm wondering if this could be my issue? I did write to Mile Markers tech support a little while ago but I am wondering if any of you have had the same issue?
Thanks!

Check to make sure the small clip for the axle is in the correct position, I think there are 3 different styles.

Thanks, I checked that out, it's where it's supposed to be. Im starting to think I should have used the original flat outer split ring instead of the round one that came in the kit. As soon as I get a warm day I'm going to put the old ring in one side and see if it makes a difference. Thanks again!
