Also had to aquire a new adapter between the X-fer & tranny.

I really liked my 221, but I don't miss the constant back ground noise of it. Once I get the shifters for my 205 working correctly, I think it'll make a nice X-fer.

Here's a thread I started in a diesel forum. All about what you guys have.

I shortened the rear 1 piece shaft from a square body truck at home for free.

Re: So, that's why it was leaking so much today!

Got some free time last night so I went out and popped the broke cover.

Looks like my truck has some missing balls

Here's what was floating around visible through the crack in the cover

So, what did happen to the missing ball bearings? Kind of looks like they are pretty captive in there - would they have slipped out and into the transfer case or broken up? Was some obvious metal grit in there.

Spent a bit of time doing some more eyeballing and it looks like moving everything forward and dropping 2" of the body lift will require me to rework the low tranny hump I added or go back to the high tranny hump. I'm on a very tight budget as this was not a planned project to happen right now so I will probably see if modifying the low hump tranny will allow me to still use my rather new carpet.

I'm thinking I can just move my exhaust hangers forward and avoid having to do anything to the exhaust - not sure on that.

Guess I will start ripping the transfer case out soon, yank the headers, pull the engine crossmember to modify it a bit, then move the engine forward, i.e. open a can of worms!

For what it's worth, I think my NP205 hits the bottom of my cab since I swapped it for the old T-221 & reused the X-member. Point being, I don't think i'd remove too much of your body lift.

Re: So, that's why it was leaking so much today!

From a few posts I have viewed it looks like the NP205 crossmember lets the transfer case sit 1" lower than the Rockwell's crossmember. If so, a 2" body lift ought to clear. If not, I guess I'll use spacers to lower the crossmember down a bit. Hopefully won't have to go to that trouble.

Re: So, that's why it was leaking so much today!

wouldn't it also depend on the condition of a guys normal body mounts? Old ones will let the cab sit lower...

Re: So, that's why it was leaking so much today!

I put in poly when I tore the truck apart so I know I don't have any sag presently. I do know the Dana 20's crossmember is 1" different than a NP205's crossmember. Pretty sure the same difference applies between the Rockwell and NP205's.

Yeah, my cab mounts are about 2 yrs old, but the more I look at your truck, I think you got plenty of body lift, you could spare a couple inches and not have to worry...

Re: So, that's why it was leaking so much today!

FYI, my stock rockwell crossmember had 1/4" spacers dropping it down....

Re: So, that's why it was leaking so much today!

Some great info here for my 68 burb build.
When putting the NP205 in did have to drop the X member 1" for body clearance for the top of the NP205. Then completely remove the rear drive shaft carrier bearing support since it was in the way of the drive shaft and shorten the rear drive shaft 5 1/2". From what I've been reading here I'm sure I'll be glad I put a 205 in for parts and less noise.
Thanks!
