Value of a '57 Hood?

I have a '55 3100 that came with a '57 hood on it. Since it already fits the truck, I am thinking that cutting and modifying the '57 hood would be better in the long run.

The other option would cost money to ship the hood (the '57), buy a new one (the '55 +shipping), and then getting it prepped and fitment issues.

Hate to ruin a good '57 hood, since it is a one year thing, but what do you guys think? I don't want the truck to have a 57' hood on the wrong year truck.

Re: Value of a '57 Hood?

If you were closer by I'd see if you want to trade. I've got a full front 55/56 clip that I'll be replacing with a '57. The only pieces that interchange are the inner fenders. Make sure it's just the wrong hood. I thought it was just the hood until we started measuring.

Well, to be honest, I would almost bet the whole front is for a '57. But the fenders that were on it were fiberglas. I have already bought new metal fenders and they did not fit the grille and upper/lower grille parts all that well. That is why I suspect they are all '57 parts.
But as I said, I have new fenders and am planning on replacing all the front grille area with proper '55 parts. Just though I could save the hood and make it look like a '55.
I think my plan will be to replace the hood with a repo '55.

Re: Value of a '57 Hood?

I'd want to sell it as a full clip. Not worth breaking it up.

This place is well worth the $25 per year.

Gotta agree with you on that. Just the information gained here from expeirenced builders and enthusiasts is worth the membership alone.

Got to get the credit card.

Re: Value of a '57 Hood?

Sorry Bill. Go ahead and lock this if you think it needs be. Didn't mean for it go this way. I will understand.
Was really looking for advise on where to try and shave out the spears on the 57. It doesn't sound like a good idea after some other input from others. Will probably just sell the 57 hood and buy another 55 hood.

Re: Value of a '57 Hood?

I would do that. Never get that big flat expanse of hood straight again. I put a 55 hood and grill on my 57, just like it better.
