I boxed the frame in where the core support is going to sit. Went together pretty well..

Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

I had some extra hands yesterday after a family Christmas dinner and put them to work. I set the bed in place do get an idea of how things will look. The body lines arent quite lined up but it gives me something to go off of.. it appears to be just about right. I measured another truck and may be 1/8 inch off..

Here is a shot inside the bed. I can squeeze 12 inch tires under it and the gas tank should fit.. I hope to start on mounting brackets before Christmas. But I need more tubing... Back to the pipe and steel yard....

Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

I pulled the column out of the caprice. OK, maybe I am missing something but the column seems like it is going to work. There is a firewall cover that was welded to the column and it ground it off and moved it up. The placement is by using the caprice mount with the holes ground out a little. The electronics clear the pickup brackets. It looks like I may be able to use the caprice brake pedal too. OK all of you old school folks calm down and dont go off on me.. I intend to build an old school ride too..

I missed one of the pics of the column. I really think it is going to work. Also with some minor firewall manipulation It appears the brake booster will work also.

You're making some good progress.

If that brake booster has a stud pattern of 3-3/8" x 3-1/2", it will bolt right up to your firewall with one of my brake booster brackets.

Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

Thanks max and captfab. I need some better inner fenders so I can mount the front up and start wiring. I really can't do anything else up front till then.

Wow, you are moving along nicely on this. Interesting as all get out. I like the idea of using the Caprice instrument panel. Just fab up a nice filler and it should look really good.

Thanks Dinas63 and Dustin07, It has only been a month since I started so that could be why you may have missed it.. Dustin, it should do pretty well in a road course, the sway bars are huge on the police package!! But like I have said before, I just want to set the cruise at 75-80..

Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

Woe!! Not sure about that compliment firefighter 736!! There are a ton of very nice rides that has has some great fab work. My skills were honed on the farm!! But I appreciate it.

Your correct pops. 78-96 b body frames were the same. There were some subtle changes in the technology but the layout is about the same. The 9c1 upgrades help with the fuzing of the pickup onto it. Like heavier springs, thicker frames, etc.

I will keep posting as I go!! Thanks again.

Just curious what your plan is for the front bumper, E911?

Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

I am going to use a factory bumper and mounts that I cut off of a salvage truck. I am going to weld another 1.5"x3" rectangle tubing to the bottom of the fabricated core support "mount" that is in the 3rd from the top picture on this page. I will put the 3 inch side facing forward. Then weld the center two mounts to that followed by some triangle backing plates behind to give some extra support. The outer mounts will be shortened and made to fit to the frame just in front of the front tires. I thought I had a pic of the bumper sitting in place on jack stands when I measured it all out but I guess I didnt take one. It SHOULD work. (Lost 3 hours of sleep on it...)

Very nice build! The dash and steering column idea with all the factory wiring works awesome. I did the same thing with my 91 dodge to 65 chevy swap.

Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

Sweet that is in encouraging. This harness is huge and I think it will be the most difficult part of the build. I plan on just plugging it all in and ensureing my grounds are good. Then get it started before I pull any unused wiring out, like the power windows, airbag stuff, A/C and heater, etc...

Re: 64 chevy swb on a 94 chevy caprice frame w/ lt1

that's exactly what I did I didn't cut anything until I knew it was right. I recommend you buy a factory service manual for the 96 caprice! It helped a bunch with the wiring.
