Muffler Recommendations

It's about time for me to finalize exhaust choices - and thought I would collect some recommendations.

She'll be running a Goodwrench 350, no internal mods. Edelbrock perf air gap intake / performer 600 CFM carb / summit racing headers (3inch collector I believe). Most likely going with no crossover or H (is this what people mean by true duels? No crossover and no H?)

I've always been a fan of flowmasters - but im not stuck on them either. I like decent amount of volume at idle.

Last noteworthy information: This is a daily driver - resonance is a factor.

I have been thinking about 50 series flowmasters - seems maybe that's a nice middle-ground between volume and resonance.

Any recommendations or thoughts are welcome.

The 50 series Delta Flows would be nice. Just stay away from glasspacks... they sound like poop.

I had a set of MagnaFlows that sounded great, but you HAVE to run a cross pipe with them or it sounds like glass packs. They don't equalize well if you don't. It still is "true dual" as far as I'm concerned. What ISN'T true dual is when you have a Y pipe into single exhaust, then it splits again down the line for "looks".

I have a set of thrush glasspacks on my 350 and they sound good. The only problem is they drone at 60mph. If you don't like loud pipes then I would go with a turbo style muffler. They rumble but are quiet at cruise.

Flowmaster HP2s with a crossover are my vote.

Have had 3 sets of mufflers in the 8 years of ownership of my truck.
1) Flowmaster Delta 40's. Great sound but too much drone at 35-40 mph.
2) Spin Techs - Great mufflers overall but just a bit louder than what I was looking for. No drone at all. Highly recommend.
3) Current mufflers are Dynomax Super Turbos. Perfect for how I want the truck to sound and the way I drive. No drone and not too loud.

Everybody has their personal preference for what they want their truck to look and sound like and as long as you are happy with the finished product (it's never finished, right), all is good.

i'd save my money and just buy a good set of generic turbo mufflers at the autoparts store for 20 or so each

I bought the biggest, quietest mufflers I could find. I like not hearing my exhaust.

I ran some some 36" glasspacks on my 71 gmc. Sounded so quiet when they were new... could hardly hear the truck run. Once they burned out a bit... they were great! I know so many people hate how a burned out glasspack sounds, and I agree if you're running the short ones. The 36" glasspacks sounded great though! And Cheap! LoL!

My 72 Chevy runs a set of flowmasters... I don't know what series. I bought em used for $40 for the pair.

Really? I don't run a cross pipe and mine don't sound like "glasspacks" either.

In my case, with a little age comes some wisdom. About 10 yrs ago I almost ran over a motorcycle changing lanes because my pipes were too loud. He was in my blind spot and even with the windows down, I didn't hear his bike or his horn.

Thanks for all the recommendations guys - much appreciated. I've spent hours these last couple days plugging the various recommendations in this thread into you-tube and having a listen.

It's hard - since there are so many factors that affect sound (cam being one of the biggest - since mine will keep the stock cam).

I have to say - I am leaning towards the Super 10's. I'm terrified of it being too quiet. On the other hand I keep fretting about drone - but I only drive 10 miles or so to work - longer trips are always done in my Wife's altima hybrid (I told her the other day that both our cars are 'green' - hers is a hybrid and mine is being painted dark olive )

Super 10's from Flowmaster are race/off road mufflers and their loudest muffler. Or were you talking about the Dynomax Super Turbo's? If so, I'd be happy to post a sound bite of the Dynomax.

The sounds good. What are the specs on your truck? Is it the stock cam?
