looking at a new truck

so today i went to look at a 98 chevy ext cab short bed truck well when i went to test drive it i found out the truck seemed to like slip or stutter continuously really bad taking off not as bad on the road but then when i got back i parked the truck was idling at 2000rpm the guy said his mechanic said the throttle position sensor was bad. would that sensor make the tranny feel like it was slipping and make the truck idle that high?

Scrounge a TPS from a similar truck in a bone yard and take it with your for another test drive. If this doesn't fix it, pass until he can get it fixed. Don't buy another man's troubles. Ask the guy that married my ex

Re: looking at a new truck

A TPS....... and the stutter might be a bad lock-up in the torque converter.

Also, a poor idle & (vacuum?) sometimes makes you think it is a tranny, but trannys depend on correct RPM & vacuum.

Smell the tranny fluid...sniff for a burned smell. Deduct $2,000 for a burn smell.

Re: looking at a new truck

For $6500 it should be low miles and in perfect shape. That's alot of money for a 13 year old truck.
