Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5

Paint!!!

For the last 2 years, I've been using my imagination of what this would actually look like. We started with painting the inside of the tub and inside of all the panels. Going to let it dry for a few more days and next week we're mounting the body on the frame. Then, it's final prep and the exterior will get shot.

It's full steam ahead from this point forward.

Thank you Tom. Yeah, I ordered new woodgrain side moldings from Mar-K. All the tailgate trim and windshield trim polished up real nice.

Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5

Seats got reupholstered and they came out real nice. They talked to me into doing a vinyl wrap around the center console and I really like it. They also used trunk liner on the inside of the console. Gives it a very nice clean look. Seat warmers went in both buckets and the rear bench seat. The buttons are flush mounted style with 3 settings. I went with the shops recommendation for the seat warmers (http://heatyourseat.com/product/3-se...tch-4-element/)

They have been using them for years and swear by them. They have a single power controller for 2 seats and a safety shut off switch built in. We decided to have the buttons mounted on the front and back of the console. Almost has a factory look to it. Overall, I'm very pleased with how they came out.

Hey Mike - I am torn about the woodgrain moldings on my CST.....the new ones I have from the PO look cheap and the 'woodgrain' appears to be some kind of vinyl tape. What's your opinion on the Mar-K's?

Thanks!

I think Mar-K uses some kind of Veneer for the woodgrain. I would just call them to confirm. I posted a few pics of the piece I received. They make these pieces in house right here in the USA. One thing I have noticed on others, is that the woodgrain seems to be a lighter shade compared to these.

Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5

The body was mounted using energy suspension poly bushings and we ran into a little issue with clearance on the drivers side for the spark plug wires. It needs to sit up just a tad higher to clear the spark plug wires. This could be the result of using a wire loom separator mounted horizontally along side the valve cover. I know the poly bushings run on the thinner side compared to OEM stock. I purchased these bushings a while ago, before Wes had his back into production.

Instead of shimming it, I decided not to even mess with it, so I called up Wes (classic Heart Beat) and ordered a set of body mount bushings this morning. Hopefully they will arrive before the weekend so we can resume.

I posted a couple pics. The first one you can see the wire being push up against the firewall.
