Re: 70 Blazer Frame Off

Eric decided to go all Bill Nye today and clean up the under dash assemblies (parking brake, pedal mount) with science. They came out awesome.

I honestly can't remember...I have quite literally used everyone for this project...I could figure it out, but it's easier just to tell you most everyone has them or can get them...Brothers, TruckShop, LMC(I guessing here), So Kentucky Classics, etc., etc....and I'm sure Wes and GMCPaul could hook you up too. They come unpainted. You can do a quick Google search for "kick panel vent 67-72" and get all you want.

Looking great!

I did the sequence on the ball joints/ knuckles you sent to me and it did the trick..It's unbelievable how some things work.

I'm glad it worked. Credit definitely goes to the board...I just copied it from another thread. That was a remarkably difficult and aggravating step.

Re: 70 Blazer Frame Off

Well...this isn't going to work. I already had mixed emotions about not putting together a stock a/c set up. I definitely am not digging the "dealer-installed" compressor position.

I was expecting a bracket and compressor position like RackMan's pictured below. I guess I'll be on the phone to Vintage Air tomorrow.

You might want to try giving Classic Auto Air a call. I've been talking with them and they seem very knowledgable and know their stuff.

Hmmm, I dont like that either. Mines on a BB, but it sits on the side like RackMans. Im sure you can get some different mounts.

Yes...they're sending me the side mount. I don't know where the miscommunication happened...but if something went perfectly smoothly...I'd be suspicious.

Re: 70 Blazer Frame Off

OK...some things that we've learned on the Vintage Air set up. First, the instructions say to mount the pictured hose bracket to the battery tray. But that means the battery is sitting on a bolt head. Nice bit of fab work by Eric to weld that in and get our battery sitting flat (second pic).

Also, I did not realize that the VA system re-purposes the factory A/C controls and actually omits the fan switch...it's the proverbial vestigial appendage. And unfortunately the replacement faceplate has a huge Vintage Air logo. I guess I could use the factory plate and just try to remember what the three horizontal levers do.

Re: 70 Blazer Frame Off

...a lot of discussion about what color to paint the firewall plate. Body color vs. black. I figured that visually you just kind of expect to see a big black box over there anyway, so black was my choice. I don't like that they want you to put a mounting plate behind the hood latch. My hood fit/release was so good before disassembly...I'm getting punch drunk and loathe another fight, it better not goof it up.

...I've got to redo my firewall markings...they got smudged. It's for the best though, I need to blunt my grease pencil...my markings seemed too sharp. I think I'm gonna add the J70 and go 4T instead of just T as well.
