Changing lifters Big Block Chevy - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I recently took my (stock) 1970 402 CST/C10 to my local mechanic for a valve adjustment - standard hydraulic lifters. He told me that the #6 cylinder would not adjust. Sure enough, I pulled the intake and found a dead lifter. The others spin, work, and look fine.

I also found some rockers with a bit of wear on them.

MY PLAN: to replace the rockers as a set, same for lifters. I am not pulling the cam, however. I have read that this may be a bad idea..?

I could just replace the one lifter..? Do the set..?

I really just need to get it running again.

Suggestions?

I would think, just because of the differences in wear you would want to replace them all, although I don't see it hurting anything to just do the one. I would assume the engine would run pretty rough with only one new and the rest old and worn

Its always been my understanding that you change the cam and the lifters. If you just change lifters they will wear to the worn cam and you really didn't gain anything. Might as well do it right.

It wouldn't be the first or last time only one lifter was changed.
One new one won't effect how it runs. Adjusted correctly it'll work fine.
