Re: stock chevy 292 with 4 barl intake

welcome to the board! I am sorry you didnt get a quicker reply, might have to do with the f@&d part of your user ID. I dont have any experience with this, but I dont know why it wouldnt work, just dont go overboard on the carb size.

Here is a bump to see if anyone can be of more help and again welcome!

Re: stock chevy 292 with 4 barl intake

That would be a great combo as long as the carb isn't too big.

old hot rodder math is to double the cubic inch displacement of the engine, so a 600 cfm carb should do the trick, but I think it is over kill. You will get better throttle responce from a smaller 500 or 550 carb unit. When I plug the engine specs of my vortec 350 into a comuter program I have it tells me that a 600 cfm carb is all I need.

'Old hot rodder math' is really, really wrong.

yes it is. if I used that calculation I would need a 700 series carb. That is an awesome calculator tool nice find.

Re: stock chevy 292 with 4 barl intake

we are saying 500. If you run the carb calc that redcap posted even at 100% volumetric efficency your engine is only going to swallow 422 cfm and realistically your ve is closer to 85%

I would think one of the Holley 390 cfm carbs would be perfect for a 292, but I have never messed with a Chevy inline-6.

I will say that the 390cfm ran great (once someone else tuned it...) on an old Ford 300-6 I used to have long ago.
