With the '96 S-10 speedo in a 67-72, 60mph ends up being straight up. It has to do with keeping the sweep the same as the older speedo because in the '96 it didn't go as far. As long as your tune is correct for your application, it will be fine, there is no specific changes needed to make the speedo conversion it's self work. I hope that makes sense?

Hey busted truck, as a past ls1nova cluster customer also remember that when you install the needle it will need to be checked for accuracy. I turned my key on and then installed the needle. It initially was off by a couple mph. I used my laptop while reading the pcm's speedo input. My prior calibration was spot on so i used that for reference, so it took a couple removals/installs to get it right.

That's correct. I just remembered the only problem i had when done was my needle stuck at 0 mph and wouldn't respond until i drove it and hit a few bumps and the dash warmed up then the needle moved. I pm'd ls1nova and once again he helped me and said i needed to remove the paint from the area where the needle hits the rest pin. I had painted the needles during the cluster job and the paint removal fixed it.

It does have to do with where the needle starts out at as going 60 mph and try to maintain that speed and remove the needle and then reinstall at the right moment and still drive safely is more than what i can do because i hate multitasking.

Just consider it's a trial and error process. I just left the clear lens off, made a tape reference mark for 60mph and drive and check recheck until correct. Just don't turn the ignition off at the drive motor for the needle has the tendency to move down counterclockwise, so leave the truck running and i suppose using gps and check your speed, pull over, take the needle off and reposition as needed.

Remember that these clusters are a little odd to look at around 10-30 mph because of the angle of your line of sight and referencing the needle to the mph scale but that's just the way they were. So to double check at 60mph is perfect because the line of sight at that point isn't a problem if that helps plus if it's accurate at 60 i don't care if it's off a hair at low speeds

Of all of the mods i've done to the truck the ls engine and the cluster mods are my favorites. The 8,000 rpm tach change is a must with the ls and the pcm will need to be scaled accordingly to read correctly. Terry at lone star dyno straightened this out for me. His avatar is "CRITTER"

Thank you! I'm having trouble getting the decal straight. Any pointers? The LS is the best upgrade I've made by far. Where abouts can I get an 8k tach?

My first vendor choice based on many reasons is gmc pauls. Next would be chevyduty (classic parts of america). The good news is the 8k tach price has dropped as more vendors stock it. The bad news is the clear lens that goes across the complete cluster contains the 8k numbers, so to do the 8k tack and the ls1nova cluster mods for a complete job you must have a 8k tach kit (complete=tin cluster body parts, lens, wiring, etc) Do NOT purchase just the tach alone as a replacement, you MUST purchase a complete kit. I think i paid just under $300.00 during a spring sale from a vendor out of kentucky because i needed heater parts and other things, could fill the order right away, and a free shipping month promo, all of this from memory of about 3 years ago.

My first decal job was a flop and ls1nova fixed me up with a replacement. From memory my screwup was i didn't drop it down (off-center) far enough and i mocked it up before finalization and the numbers and scales just didn't look right. They look great sitting in the drivers seat but looking at it straight on with my bench seat removed and sitting directly on the floor the cluster looks odd. Another words, the design engineers have various depth levels off center to correct for the line of sight angle. Take the cluster in your hands, arms out stretched level, it looks odd. Now start to lower it down to say near your waist, maybe just above that and the cluster looks correct. I throw out many descriptions to help, as being a dealer mechanic and looking at manuals usually didn't help much.

Page 5 post 115 of this thread shows how to put the decal on the S-10 face if that's what you are talking about. If you already have that part done and are trying to get it put on straight, then its really just a little bit of trial and error. And like 68c10airstream mentioned, it won't be exactly straight on, it will be down a little bit so it looks right when you are looking at it in the driver's seat.

This definitely is a feasible mod that the average guy can do. I'm 16 and am doing this. The only thing i bought was the basic package from ls1nova, and the s10 instrument cluster. I am currently doing the finishing touches before i start to wire it all up, and am extremely happy with the way it is turning out
