Front End rebuild parts

I am going to send in my '79 for a front end (bushing) rebuild. I have been reading and it seems that MOOG parts are the way to go, and that Rock Auto is the best source as far as price. Yes?

What I need is a list of parts that I will need, if anyone can point me to one.

Ok - maybe if I try it this way. Here is a list of what I have in my cart. Am I missing anything?

2ea - Tie Rod Adjusting Sleeves

might want to consider new coil springs if they've never been replaced.

You can look at the LMC exploded view to check the breakdown parts for a rebuild. They are always good for that. I agree MOOG is usually quality stuff.

Excellent idea. I don't want to "scrimp". Might as well get it all while he's doing the job. Anyone have opinions on the Heavy Duty vs Standard? I HATE a harsh ride so I assume the Standard will be good? (My truck is a BigTen and has the extra leafs (7?) in the back, so I don't know if it also came with HD springs (that are already on there).

I think the HD are for a truck with a big block. Unless you have a big block or a slide-in camper with a lot of overhang the standard should be fine.

Okay - I have the MOOG 6452 in the cart.

Don't be surprised if you need a few other parts once work begins. I had my 75's front end rebuilt several years ago after telling the shop that I was planning on keeping it many more years as opposed to just make it road safe.

Turns out one of the stabilizer bar brackets was broken. Not a large cost add but something to be prepared for.

You should like the results when done. Mine drove like a new truck.

Since it will be that far apart, might consider having the two front brake hoses replaced at the same time. They can be a PITA if you don't have the proper tools.

Already did the front brakes/lines. and it WAS a pita!

What about shocks? Looking for a daily driver type of shock, moderately priced. Think it currently has Monroe gas shocks.

I used all Raybestos Pro (Spicer) front end parts, but I dont think they are available anymore. Moog is the next best thing. Moog 6454 springs will raise the front about 1" higher then the 6452 springs. Having the 6454 springs installed for years, I recently switched to the 6452 springs and the ride is much more compliant on all the bad paved roads I drive on daily. Unless you really want to make it higher, stick with the 6452 springs. 6082 springs are slightly softer, but I haven't tried them yet, so I cant make a recommendation on them.

I didn't see sway bar end links on your list. Also, you don't have to replace your adjuster sleeves unless they're bent, damaged, or rusted beyond use. Of course they've been in service for 35 years or so. Regarding shocks, if you're looking to improve the ride, I've found Bilstein to be the answer. They are expensive though. If you want to be surprised and how good your rig can ride, you may well decide they're worth it.

Already got all the parts on the way. All Moog. Turns out Amazon was slightly better than Rock Auto because of free shipping. Got the Moog 6452 springs.

Ordered KYB Gas shocks (there was a rebate!). Hopefully theyll be good. Don't really put many miles on this truck so they should be. Looking forward to a new front end though.
