Re: Gasser 60-66?

Revive this thread. Im looking at a 65 c10 and i found a 54 chevy truck frame for 300 on craigslist to give it the straight axle front end.

Re: Gasser 60-66?

I have a 65 short bed just waiting to get towed home. Except the rockers, the steel is awesome. As soon as the garage construction is over it build time. Should be about a week. This will be an awesome truck and yes i'm going bbc/4 speed gasser. I can hardly wait to get started.

Re: Gasser 60-66?

I'd ask do you want to go fast, or are you trying for the look?
Trucks are heavy so if you want to go fast, you may want to choose a different platform.
If you just want to look gasser, we be done.

for me it would be looks mostly i would probably throw a vintage supercharger or something on it just to make it look fast lol

Easy now, there are a lot of fast trucks here! There was a 66 chevy truck that won Pinks All Out. My engine guys built my 406 with a milder cam than 76 Camero they run 11s in. About same weight. Til I get front crossmember in and brakes I will wait on track times. By the way my 1 Ton diesel has a 425 hp tune with 850ftlb+ torque, Wana play?

Re: Gasser 60-66?

So if I tweak the torsion bars and drop air out back... not to mention the Salt Flats and solids mix... gasser?

I would call that like a mini gasser stance haha.. that's a sweet truck! When I think gasser I think a solid front axle and a decent front end lift with some headers sticking out just behind the front wheels..

While they look 'cool', I'm betting they sure don't drive cool.

I like to drive my stuff regardless of whether it's slow or fast. I'll settle for the vintage look w/o the antiquated nose bleed front suspension & drive mine all over mother earth.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: Gasser 60-66?

Sign your old...driver ed had a movie called "Blood on the Hiway", shackled up Mustang wrecks. Go figure. I just had to get under truck to change oil pan but that would be torsion limit. I run 1 degree rake with torsion bar. When front air ride is in it might be more. It still hooks with 295/45/18 Nitto 555s. Sideways putting posi to test.

Drove a straight axle 55 210 sedan back in the 1970's. Big block, tunnel ram, Olds spool rear end with ladder bars and a 5:13 gear. Solid 10 second car. Drum brakes on the rear only. Car was terrifying to drive hard.

Nothing on the computer. it was anything BUT sweet. It was sort of street legal and I cruised it on the weekends attempting to be cool enough that teenage girls might talk to me. (I was just a kid myself) Cruising and street drags were all we did back then.

Our cars were death traps. I arc welded my spring mounts and ladder bars on myself. No roll cage just a single hoop bolted to the floor. No interior to speak of. It did have a passenger seat.
