Need cam advice

Currently have a stock 350 out of a 78 nova in my 71 c10. It is grossly under powered (~170 - 180hp). I have an edlebrock intake and carb (500cfm), will be ordering a set of long tube.
It's a 4 on the floor with the granny 1st and I believe the rear end is the 3.08 gearing.

With all of that said I want to cam upgrade to get some bigger balls in this thing. It's a daily and I don't need crazy profile cams.

Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Need cam advice

With that granny trans and a relatively mild rear gear I'd stay with a low profile cam built to make most of its power at low to mid rpm. There's a zillion cAm profiles you could go with but if you want a quick example summits k1101 would be suitable. Here's a link

Re: Need cam advice

Re: Need cam advice

Stay with stock. But your probably going to find a higher gear or put some taller tires on it.

Stock is crap. This was the smog era motor so it's under powered 170hp to 4200lb truck is just sad

Re: Need cam advice

Comp cams High Energy 256H. you will love it, don't go crazy and make "the bottom of the page " mistake. that is when people go all the way to the bottom of the page and pick the cam from there. The 256 will work fine but don't just take my word call the guys over in Memphis[TN] that build them 1-800-CAM-HELP. They are just about 65 miles from me and many-a- time i have gone over there to talk to them about what i was doing and they would make suggestions. once they even went to the back and made me a one off for my bracket car. Re: Need cam advice

The 256h mentioned is a great choice. So is the Crane 266 or Comp 260 (almost same cam). You will be happiest with the SM465 if you stay in the 210 degree at .050 duration range max.

Re: Need cam advice

That was my biggest concern, the degree and lobe separation.
