67 Rocker Panel Replacement Help!
This has probably been asked a thousand times... I'm about ready to put in the new and I'm trying to figure out the order of installation for these parts. First pic is the recipient and then there's the four parts. The LMC catalog doesn't discern it very well. I'm thinking the Inner Rocker Panel (flat gray panel) goes on first and secondly the Outer Cab Floor Exterior...and then...the angled piece Inner Cab Support goes where? Then lastly the Outer Rocker Panel. Can anyone try to spell it out for me. I hope to weld them in soon. Or if you think something is not absolutely necessary.. Thank you.

Re: 67 Rocker Panel Replacement Help!
You don't need the white piece. Your inner rocker is for the right side and you're working on the left. And your outer rocker is for the other side too.

Re: 67 Rocker Panel Replacement Help!
Sorry, forgot to answer your question. I would install the inner rocker with the top few inches of the floor first. Then install the outer rocker. I really can't see you needing the front to rear floor brace, so I would return everything. Then buy the full inner rocker and outer rocker for the left side. Forget the other two parts.
Here is a picture of the right side full inner rocker installed. Once to this point, then install the outer rocker.

Re: 67 Rocker Panel Replacement Help!
I have a members truck[WIGGY HD] in my shop right now. I say you put in the inner rocker then the foot well piece the front lower pillar patch then the rear pillar patch, the cab corner goes on next and then finally the outer rocker. I had WIGGY HD send me a cab "kit" from Top Banana. It includes the inner and out er rockers and the front and rear pillar panels, I don't for the life of me understand why they didn't include the footwell panel in the kit, cause 99 times out of 100 if you need the pillar patch you need the foot well panel too.
You need to know the inner rocker that I did has the floor piece on it as well. I have the left side done on this truck and will start on the right in the morning. I have learned from the left side starting out to where to trim the parts on the truck to make laying the floor easier. If you do not cut out the pillars and footwell parts too it is gonna slow down the inner rocker fitment greatly. To get the best fit possible I laid the inner in over the floor and then cut both at the same time with the die grinder then tacked it in place till the other parts were fitted then welded it all up also be prepared to make some slices[pie cuts] in the curves of the new metal. I did and the parts fit so much better after I massaged them where I wanted them to go then welded up the seams. Also in the pics above it looks like that installer welded the seams to the other parts, I did plug welds like the factory did by drilled holes on the rocker[and other parts as well]along the edges like the parts removed had. Them I welded up the holes [plug welds] then grind those down flush and fill. It will make a more factory looking job. You may not think it is needed to do the job, and really it isn't depending on what level of a job your trying to do on how well it needs to come out. I am getting paid to do this one and prefer it to look like a repair that never happened. Jim |

Re: 67 Rocker Panel Replacement Help!
If your doing the pillars and the footwell start buy cutting them right about the line where the old rocker was .Go the length of the repair meaning use that line and cut straight in to all of it then cut out the inner rocker/floor piece . It will make things go so much faster that you can lay the inner rocker in from the outside speeding it up a bunch

Re: 67 Rocker Panel Replacement Help!
Thanks guys. I see that I might not need all that now. Fortunately the floor isn't too bad and I will cut a piece of sheet metal for that and the inner footwell is rusted at the very bottom so kind of scratching my head on that..and the rear mount area is structurally sound and looks fine. I really appreciate the detailed explanation hugger, I can see how to line it up. I have the drivers side inner rocker in place already. Will post some pics after I finish putting in 400 block today. Anybody need a straight six?

Re: 67 Rocker Panel Replacement Help!
I see in the assembly manual where to weld the rocker and it looks like it only gets spot weld (plug welded in my case) on each side of the opening. Doesnt the rocker get welded along the top or bottom lips anywheres?

Re: 67 Rocker Panel Replacement Help!
wow, first I've actually seen one that was left. Just don't know if it's really necessary. Any other suggestions out there? Thanks for showing that 57TF. What's with all the holes? Spot welds?

Re: 67 Rocker Panel Replacement Help!
Those holes are what is left after drilling out the spot welds to remove the outer rocker. I would say in that case it might have been better to grind the spots from the outside going through the outer to make the welds weak or disappear, the the outer will just "snap off" the inner with little movement.

Re: 67 Rocker Panel Replacement Help!
I thought those might've been spot welds but there's so many and that's the way I took my outer rocker panel off, just had to find them but once you use that special tool to drill them out the panel pops right off. I am going to play around with and will post pics after I get it rigged up and tacked in.

Re: 67 Rocker Panel Replacement Help!
I know this is for a '67, but are the panels we're talking about here, and where and how to cut/remove any different for a '72 (or '68-'71 for that matter)?

Re: 67 Rocker Panel Replacement Help!
The actions would be the same here for what is being discussed weather it is a 67 or any of the 67-72 model years. Jim
