Angry Finally got my pathfinder back but...

My interior has been burned from cigarettes or something another and something like a minor minor fender bender on passenger side and stuff stolen roughly a grand hidden in a spot for bills and gas and food. I don't even know who stole it or anything. Is there anything I can do? Or am I just stuck with it. Even my fresh alignment from November is like it wasn't even done. My gas cap thing door is being a pain in the butt

Re: Finally got my pathfinder back but...

You can ask ins. if they will cover but, keep in mind that they may raise your rates or they may refuse coverage since you said you had recently moved (some of your rate depends on where you live). I had a toolbox stolen from a company truck once. They broke a window to get it. It was in my driveway. The company ins. paid for the window but not my toolbox. On the other hand, my homeowners paid for the tools and box because it was in my home driveway. I was out of town and had forgotten the toolbox was in the truck or it would have been in the garage.

Re: Finally got my pathfinder back but...

Drove it and it's pulling to the left I just did alignment back in late October early November. I have to pay a car payment for it and now I don't want it due to the damage especially interior.

State laws differ, insurance companies differ, policies within the same company differ.... there are no simple answers to your questions & concerns. Your insurance agent may be the best source for accurate information.

Re: Finally got my pathfinder back but...

If I had that happen to me, unless the vehicle was a family treasure of some sorts, I would do my best to get the insurance to fix it up and clean it, then I would sell it or trade it in on something better.
I could never keep a vehicle that someone else had stolen, trashed and damaged.

Re: Finally got my pathfinder back but...

Depends on how your insurance is set up.

Most are set up like this:

Quote:
Because vehicle theft falls under the umbrella of comprehensive coverage, you'll need to pay your deductible to get a cash settlement when the car isn't found. ... If your stolen car is found and there's damage, comprehensive can help cover the cost of repairs, and you'll pay your deductible as you normally would.
And that's only if you have comprehensive coverage.

If you have a $500-1,000 Deductible, your damage sounds like it's less than that, so filing a claim would only cost you money and higher rates.

The insurance company won't cover the cash you lost.

Sounds like someone you know stole it and dumped it, they just wanted the 1K in cash you had in it.

Re: Finally got my pathfinder back but...

As already mentioned here.....
Here is the simple question:

Did you have insurance on the vehicle?

(...if so, did you have full coverage....or something very minimal?)

Ok, let's start there.

That there is the question.

Even though in CA insurance is mandatory (and may very well be in other states), I think that any car that has a loan on it would require full or comprehensive coverage, no? I would think that if I was in the business of loaning money that I would also want my ends covered.

Every year on the very day that my homeowners policy renews, I get a letter from the bank stating that I have 5 business days to submit proof of homeowners insurance or "an insurance policy will be provided for you at an additional cost". I call the agent and every time they have already sent the policy to the bank. The banks aren't gonna expose themselves one bit if they can help it.

I haven't had a bunch of auto loans to know for sure, but would think the banks want to cover their tails just the same.

Re: Finally got my pathfinder back but...

The problem will be his deductible. Unless the "fender bender" is some serious damage, it *sounds* to me like everything the insurance company would pay out on would be less than his deductible, or close enough to where you have to decide if you want to file and maybe pay a higher rate, or just take care of it yourself.

He needs to figure out what his insurance will and won't cover and what his deductible would be.

....I'm starting to think that is the issue right there....no insurance, just a theft recovery on this one, with the recovered vehicle being found in abused condition.

None of the insurance companies are there to work for you. I had AllState back in the 90's and was hit by an uninsured and unlicensed driver that was also drunk. AllState refused to pay any pain and suffering and we went to court. I had my attorney and drunk dude had his. Allstate had a lawyer there representing me and the other drunk. The Allstate lawyer for the drunk totally confused and clouded the entire case, enough, the jury said no pain and suffering because I was partly at fault for just being there, and I should have taken extraordinary measures knowing the drunk was going to hit my car. Total crap!

Re: Finally got my pathfinder back but...

Last year a woman hit my truck http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=749142
AAA was great, contacted me proactively and even paid for a rental car.

Two years ago a guy hit me on my bicycle and broke my arm. The other drivers insurance was farmers and we’re going to trial on that one. I’ll get the initial amount offered by farmers and 2/3 of whatever else my attorney gets. Can’t really lose on that one but you have to be patient. Insurance companies like to drag these out in hopes you will settle.
