Drivers Door Handle

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to get the drivers outside door handle off of my 50 Chevy 3100 pickup.

Looked in the assembly manual but can't find anything on it.
Handle just spins, something is stripped i'd guess.

That was on the door latch it's self he wants to take the handle off. Let me run out and make sure my brain is working right on this. I need to pull the handle out of that door anyhow

Ooops..sorry bout that..here's a pic of the assembly..looks like a screw and maybe the slide clip have to come of...mines pushbutton so that's all i got

Well that was an interesting deal. I dug one of my donor doors out and proceeded to pull the handle off.

The outside handle is held on by two screws one under the handle on the outside when you turn the handle down and one on the inside just inside the weather strip.

This was a clutch head screw before it stripped out with my brand new clutch head bit.

With those out the shaft may be rusty or worn and the part that goes through the door may be rusted a bit but a bit of work and wiggle should get it out.

The shaft on this one is real square on the end but it gave me a fight


Had to drill the head off the screw but I am going to shave the door handles anyhow.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried the obvious, removing the screws and the thing still won't budge.
I've looked at the back of the handle inside the door and can not see any clip's or screws there that might be holding it on.
Maybe I need to scratch my head, have a beer and look at it a little long, because i am just not seeing it .

on the end of the shaft where mr48s picture shows rust, spray some penetrant. the best I have found is a 50/50 mix of atf and acetone. its stuck with rust. if you can see in there, you can use a punch to tap the end of it.

Removing rusted bolt basics
One of the first jobs I ever had was at a shop doing full on restorations on vintage Fords (we specialized in model 40s 1933-34). By boss taught me MANY things I use every day. One of them was the best trick for getting rusted bolts out that I have ever tried.
You need your torch with a small tip.
Take the torch and make a perfect flame like you are going to weld. Heat the bolt head up till it starts to turn red. (If the bolt is already broken off you will need to saw a grove to use a flat blade screwdriver or have enough to grab with locking pliers) Then quickly cool it with a squirt bottle of water. Repeat, heat it, then cool it. Do this a number of times and the bolt WILL turn right out. If you can, heat the nut around the bolt right before you try turning it out, BUT DON'T HEAT THE BOLT. This will expand the nut from around the bolt. I have did this on Model A door hinges, if you are not familiar with them, it is a 5/16 bolt with a little flat blade screw driver head! A ridiculous design that rusted in to tight to remove around 1950! You can imagine how hard they are to remove in 2000. I have did these with total success, only needing a regular hand screw driver about 99% of the time.

The way I figure the heating and cooling expands and contracts the screw breaking it loose from the rusts grip.

I use this trick every once in a while and it's amazing. Just did it a few weeks ago to remove a lug nut from a co-workers car. He gave up and asked me what I would do and did this very thing and he about cried when it stun off. LOL

That bolt would probably have come out if I had taken the tie to spray some PB Blaster on the back side of it and waited a while. I'll probably just grind it flush, hit it with the mig an grind it smooth again.
