Re: 1992 GMC Sierra C1500 Shortwide DD/Project

Here's our uh...parts supply I do apologize about the dirty Green F##d in the middle. I made my money back on parts and it'll be turned into a Toyota when I haul it in for scrap

Also, in here is a black Z71. Which will be stripped down and prepped as my '92 is going to become a Z71.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra C1500 Shortwide DD/Project

Gonna put the front and rear diffs of my 88, along with trans and transfer case in the Z71 chassis, and my 92 engine and exhaust, and set my entire '92 body on it.

Welp, got the black Z71 all stripped down. Here's the new home for my 92. 1993 K1500 Z71 frame.

Needs more cleaning and prepping, which it'll get.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra C1500 Shortwide DD/Project

And so it begins.

Frame is stripped. Wiring harness, fuel lines, brake lines, entire front suspension. Only things left in the frame that are coming out, are skid plates and the front diff.
Frame will be cleaned, pressure washed, and sand blasted before prep paint, and new parts.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra C1500 Shortwide DD/Project

I already posted these in my 88 thread, but since they correspond with my Z71 build, I'll post them here. Stripped 88 frame, and the trans and transfer I'll be using; 700R4 Auto and NP241 transfer case.

Here's the stripped 88 frame. Phone was being stupid. Tomorrow I'm gonna clean up the 93 Z71 frame as much as I can, and it'll get painted soon.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion

Got the Z71 frame up on the rotisserie, and started cleaning it up. Grease, is a b*tch.

By the way, after looking high and low for a frame number on every frame we've come across...finally found the frame numbers when we WEREN'T looking.

Goodies and such:
New steering wheel

Battery life on my truck was going to crap, so I did a few adjustments. Firstly, new alternator. Replaced my serpentine belt while I put the new alternator on.

And then, added a second battery.

I think it'll be fine.

I can tell you what the problem is, auto zone parts suck!

I didn't know any better when I moved down to Texas because where I am from in Montana we don't have Auto Zone, I learned in a big hurry their parts are the worst.

Everything I bought from them had to go back.

Now all I run for batteries are the Optima yellow tops, but even those can be sketchy since they started making them in Mexico.

I've never had issues with Duralast Golds, actually. I run Duralast Gold batteries in almost everything. When it comes to AutoZone...if it's not Duralast, I don't use it. I will never buy Valucraft. But I do know what you mean. Not everyone has the best luck with parts.

Frame is completely painted, and it's now half a roller.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion

Thank you Bill. What you don't see is the rear end I got mounted after the pictures. It was too dark to take pics afterwards, so they'll be up tomorrow, and my 92 will also be stripped down tomorrow. It will be driving and on the road by Friday.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion

Here's the pics of the rear end mounted. Sadly it's getting pushed back about a week. I caught a bug and I'm sick as hell...and combined with this weather I'm not doing squat.

Picked up a new grille last night. Been looking high and low for one of these damn things.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion

Here's a couple updates. First, the new lenses for the new grille.

Second, I got bored and put it in.

No bumper filler on the bottom of the grille right now. That's only because since I'm building my Z71, the 94-98 front bumper brackets will just go on that frame, instead of having to put them on my busted 2WD frame, then take them right back off.

I have always preferred the GMC grill on the 95-98 years. It does look good on there!

Finally getting back into this damn thing. Parts painting has begun.

Cleaning up and prepping the torsion bars

Chevy Orange!

Re-painting my torsion bar crossmember

Torsion bars are in. There's just something about Chevy Orange on top of black. It's beautiful.
