Brake booster braces

trying to install 11" factory brake booster on 67 c-10 that has manual brakes. There is no bolts in firewall to bolt braces from booster. The unit was pulled from a truck with disc brakes. I do not know the year of truck it came from. Was there a different setup for a brake booster in 67?
Thanks
Anthony

Re: Brake booster braces

I am not positive but I don’t believe 67 was different. My 71 has 4 studs in firewall. I do know some people flush mount the booster to the firewall with no bracket. Not sure what it entails. Probably shortening the pedal rod.

You may be able to search the forum for flush mounting booster

Re: Brake booster braces

Booster bolts to firewall just fine, there are two braces one is made of channel iron on goes straight down from the booster, the other is is a rod that is supposed to bolt on fire wall between drivers fender and booster

Re: Brake booster braces

My '69 3/4 ton has never had the braces. Based on my observations, I believe they started using then later... most likely 1971.

Here's a picture of some parts I grabbed at the local junkyard. The length of the channel shaped braces varied depending if the truck was a 1/2 or 3/4 ton. If I remember the longer one was from a 3/4 ton.

Re: Brake booster braces

Might be a little late but thought maybe this could help somebody else out.

I drilled the mounting holes for the lower brace mount points and put a nut on the back side of the mount bolts since they are just threading into sheet metal and didn't seem strong enough without doing that. I put the braces in as close to where they were on the donor rig as I could.

Where they needed to go directly below the booster is tight real estate so I picked a point that the fastener with captive washer would clear the firewall reinforcement.

The one below the fuse box I used a fastener with the largest captive washer I could so it would flex the firewall the least under whatever load it ever sees.

For both I threaded them in from the interior side so the threads were sticking out on the engine compartment side. This made installing the braces a piece of cake since the fasteners don't fall out of the mount holes on their own. A 1/4" hole will allow a pointed nose 5/16" self-tapping screw to thread in if you don't have a 5/16-18 tap handy.

The longer brace was used on the Delco booster and the shorter one on the Bendix booster from what I have seen. The Delco unit is much thicker than the Bendix version so the longer channel brace is needed since it comes from in front of the booster.

They may have used the Delco booster on the 3/4-ton and the Bendix on the 1/2-ton. I don't know for sure but it makes sense.

With all the parts swapping that goes on in the life of these rigs you can't really go by what is on them when you find them so who knows maybe it was an early model to later design thing or a combination of the two.
