Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Front lower section of right rear quarter fitted and tacked as well as the 3rd door rocker. If time permits this week I might get it welded in place one evening.

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Started working on the new fuel tank. Welded a portion of the original neck to the new tank. Once the new electric fuel pump and sending unit are installed in the tank, wired and plumbed it will be ready

Who makes the tank and why is it returnless? Are you running FI or carb?

Bought the tank from LMC. The fuel pump itself is returnless ( Holley retrofit module ) some friends of mine at a shop recommended the pump. That is what they use on most of their builds, just seems to be less hassle I guess. I'm running a 4150 style intake with injectors and a throttle body

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Finished assembling the fuel tank yesterday and installed it into the Suburban. Today will probably concentrate on plumbing the intake and running the fuel line. Hopefully in a couple of weekends the wiring will be complete as well and the motor will be ready to fire up for the first time

I used CPP sheetmetal motor mounts, they came in the LS swap kit I purchased from them

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Getting closer to start up. Radiator support , radiator, and some plumbing completed. Waiting on some odds and end parts to come in so the motor and trans can be buttoned up and I can move on to the wiring

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Been working on the wiring for the Suburban (when time permits) I have the 3D analog digital dash from Intelletronix put together and powered up the lights with a 9 volt battery. should be a nice piece once it is installed in the dash itself

Wow! That baby really shows up. Will the dash light dimmer work with it?

There is a wire that is to be connected to the light switch so that when the lights are turned on it will dim automatically.

OK, That's what the newer cars do.

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

You have put some serious work into that old girl! Looks good!

What scares me is that I am looking at duplicating your efforts on one I am looking at as far as all that rust repair. I guess the rust is in the "usual" places on these....pretty much anywhere water can find a place to pool.

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Today Dad and I were continuing on the wiring on the Suburban and made an amazing discovery. Powered up the wiring harness for the rear AC unit and the fans came on, all 3 speeds and the small cone shaped interior light underneath the unit is operational and working. Good day in the garage today!

Awesome! I love it when things work out like that.

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Wiring is just about finished on the Suburban. Last week Dad and I took a few days and built the exhaust system for it, came out pretty good. In the process of building a homemade oil primer for the LS. Hopefully sometime next weekend I will fire it up for the first time. Cant wait to hear it run!

Re: New project : 72 Suburban

Started the Suburban up for the first time this afternoon. The 402 stroker LS sounds pretty good ! When I get back into town on Friday we are going to go through the gears in the trans to make sure it is good to go then Saturday start hanging the front clip on it ... Getting excited ! Cant wait to drive it for the first time !!!
