Thanks for the compliments, that means a lot coming from someone putting together as beautiful truck as yours!

The rear suspension is coming along nicely, so it is on to the next adventure. I am going to push it a little more with a turbo 5.3. I am going to follow the Hot rod magazine build as a guide.

Adding in the upper bag support. I figured I better practice welding tunes if I plan to fab up the hot side of the turbo and the exhaust system.

Now that the rear suspension is back together, Now it is time for the next big step... turbo 5.3 ls swap.

I want to fab up a good portion of it myself, so I decided to start with the turbo hot side collector into the t4 flange. I figured if I could do this joint, the rest would be easy.

Here is the plan:

5.3 junkyard motor and transmission. I found a pretty good deal on craigslist for motor, trans, re-flashed ECU, and cut down harness.

Here are the pics of the merge pipe coming together. I created the flat patterns in solidworks, then transferred them to the tube, fit them together, and burned them up. Not the prettiest, but it will look just fin under the heat wrap.

I love the sloppy mechanics stuff. Denmah makes some crazy fast stuff. Are you running a single gate or two?

Be careful with those rear bag mounts. They will eventually twist your arms due to being mounted offset.

I am going to run a single wastegate right there at the merge.

I had the same concern over the twisting, but a couple board members have been running it with no issue. I plan to monitor it regularly to make sure nothing goes haywire.

Rear shocks mounted. Progress is slow and steady.

I got the air tank mounted. I bought this tank last year on close out. Since it was bigger than most, it does not fit on the side of the frame rail where I wanted to put it. Even though this wasn't my first choice, it should work out fine. It will be below the raised bed, and still give me good clearance to all moving parts when the truck is aired all the way down.

Making a bit more progress before the cold winter arrives and I lose my garage spot....

I mounted a boyds welding tank with aeromotive intank fuel pump. It was not cheap, but I did not want to skimp on the tank. It is a beautifully made tank, it is a shame it will be hidden under the bed. I did not want the tank to sit lower than the frame rails, so I fabbed up some brackets to mount it to the frame. the flanged holes are a bit of overkill, but I wanted to practice my welding and fabrication on some non visible parts. They turned out really good, now i am a little bummed they will also be hidden under the bed.

I really like those brackets. Did you use a dimple die? How do you plan on painting the inside? I want to buy some dimple dies that DV8 makes I just don't know if I would use them enough.

Thanks for the compliment. They turned out better than expected for my first trial. I used a simple dimple die and a Harbor Freight H frame press. I had a friend of mine make the die for me at his machine shop.(He owed me a favor) I am planning to make some more sizes this winter when I take a machining class at the local community college. I looked at the DV8 dies. Those are really nice, but hard to justify the cost for the frequency I will use them.

Yes, I painted it with POR15 after it was welded to the frame.

Started working on the raised bed. Slow go, trying to figure out how to do it with the least amout of cutting on the existing parts. I also plan to have the center section lift up for access to the air system and gas tank. I would like it to be air driven as well, but I will start with a manual lift and add the power lift later.

More slow progress on the raised floor. it goes so much faster in my mind than in reality. Measure cut, weld, remeasure, cut apart, weld, fit, and redo again.

My helper really wants to go for a ride....

Made some progress on the bed.

I put the bed on hold as I get started on my LS swap. I ran across a great deal on a 5.3 motor out of an 05 truck. I got the engine, transmission, accessories, harness, and ECU. They also threw in the pedal and module.

Plans and progress on the swap. The plan is to follow sloppy mechanics 500 rwhp build. I will be swapping out the cam and valve springs and adding a turbo. I am not sure if i will do the turbo or add it in stages. I will be mouting it with Dirty Dingo sliders and a cpp trans crossmember.

Right now I am cleaning up the motor and getting ready to swap out the cam and springs.

It doesn't look any different, but the new cam is in. Thanks to sloppy mechanic for the great video on how to do the swap. Plan is to get the valve springs swapped out tonight, then it is time to paint the block and start putting it back together.

Making more progress on the motor. Valve springs replaced. I started putting the front accessories back on, flipped the exhaust manifolds, and installed the Dirty Dingo sliders.

I got the old motor out and getting ready to drop the new one in. I am going to test fit the motor to see if the stock truck pan fits.

Once that is set, I am also going to cut the existing trans cross member out and figure out where to put the replacement.

Making some more progress. The hot side is starting to come together. Fit tack fit adjust cut tack.... Radiator lower mounts are in amd hammer forming an upper mount. Intercooler mounted. Slowly but surely checkimg things off the list and having a lot of fun in the process.

Started it today... She runs. Now it is time to get it tuned.
