Low Life 62

Here we go again... Another truck....

Found this on Craigslist here in Las Vegas. 1962 C20 SWB small window. Came with every body panel. 283 plus Turbo 350 also came with it. New wiring harness. New chrome steering column. New cab polyurethane. Patch panels for the bedsides. Replacement cab supports. Replacement fender supports. New distributor. New ignition module. New plug wires. What appears to be an almost new fuel cell. All of the hanging hardware and such for the fuel cell.

The frame has already been powder coated. It has front disk brakes already installed. Drop spindles. Drop springs in the back. Roll pan on the rear.

Re: Low Life 62

So this C20 frame is probably going to be the biggest challenge for this project and what I want to do. Since I already have a little hotrod http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=605207

I think this one will be a super low rider. I want to get it so low that I don't need a parking brake... just lay it on the ground. So anyone done this before with a C20 frame?

Re: Low Life 62

What makes you think it is a C20? I see only 6 lugs on the wheels. Plus it is a short wheelbase. There is no such thing as a C20 in a 115" wheelbase.

Re: Low Life 62

I assumed it was a C20 by the frame.... but as I do more research.. it appears that it could be a stock C10... I didn't realize that the C10 frame was the "X Frame" design.. I assumed that made it a C20...

Your thoughts Capt Fab???

I believe the x-frame was used until 62 (maybe 63)...That part I forget, which year they changed over.

I know the 63 doesn't have the X Frame because mine doesn't... nor did the first one that I owned in the 70s...

Yeah...I was thinking 62 was the last year, but couldn't remember. I know my 64 is not also.

You got a great start to work with. The x frame some see as a challenge . Though is not big prob.As even the body mount's differently.I do believe ya got a c10 there 60 to mid year 62.

Re: Low Life 62

All '60-'62 C10's and C20's have the same X-frame with the torsion bar front suspension. A C10 will be 6 lug and a C20 will be 8 lug.

Re: Low Life 62

So we brought Low Life home today and put her in the garage to begin the process... I wanted to secure her from anyone stealing parts and also from the elements.

Put her in the garage and started to assess the process.

Included in the sale were a few items that I will try to list.

New complete wiring harness
New headlight switch
New ignition switch with keys
New floor dimmer switch
New Wiper switch
New MSD ignition module
New Distributor
New Chrome Steering Column

Now... the bad... The front left door support is rotten at the bottom.

Re: Low Life 62

Got some work done on the Low Life today... Pulled the cab off of the frame and started looking at the rust issues. The plan for the cab is too get it ready to mount back on the frame which included replacing a passenger front cab mount bracket and getting if safe for use. There may need to be some fender support replacement and such, but not a lot. The plan is too make it safe and get it back on the road.

Re: Low Life 62

Couple more frame shots. Someone has done some work on this frame. There are gussets that I don't believe are stock and some "ladders" on the trailing arms.

Re: Low Life 62

Loosened the torsion bars completely to see how low it will go. This picture shows it just off of the ground, but mostly because the loose torsion bars are hitting the ground and keeping it from going all the way down. I think it will lay frame without having to pancake the cross member or doing a Z cut to the frame. I THINK....
