Question no power to coil, thus no spark... upstream ? '88 w/ 4.3L

1988 c1500 4.3L tbi with auto trans

So, When i put my truck in gear after running all day it sputtered and died, unable to restart. I figured i had vaporlocked the engine from idling awhile in the yard, but not the case. It turns out a fan I through on the floor hit the orange wire giving 12V to the coil... I thought I was in bizness, but still nothing (no Voltage at the coil).

Anyways, after minorly taking the dash/ blovebox apart, it would appear there was an alarm/remote start installed as theres more there than should be. What else should i be checking beisdes connections and fuses? any more relays in the dash or column? how hard would it be to 'uninstall' these non-needed items? worth the time/ effort or should i try to fix and leave it?

~Zach

Ive had the truck for a year, driven 15k miles, new altenator, battery, wires, plugs, rotor, cap, etc...

Boy..... there's a mess of wires under there..... Figure out what looks aftermarket. See if there is an extra wire to your ICM ( inside Distributor - short harness then goes to coil)

I'm sure there may more/better suggestions....... maybe back track from engine area?

((( Did you eventually start your truck?)))

luckily its all figured out... ignition control module under the distributor went bad and blew the coil as well, so replcing both and plugging back in the alarm power cable did the trick.

The exact thing happened to me a few months ago.

I didn't think, that maybe the ICM might have harmed the new MSD coil I had.

Maybe I was too quick to slam MSD? (Even though their cap/rotor seems cheap)
