New to the board... Need some advice please

Hello all, I'm new to the suburban life! I've been busy getting my 72 back on the road and need some advice to finish it up( for now). I need to recover the seats and was looking for some input on the covers. Who has the most correct ones? Did the suburb and come with the "hounds tooth" seats? Mine look like they have a different pattern.

Also, I'm looking at lowering 2 1/2 front and 3 in the back. I'll use spindles up front but what's best out back, springs or blocks?

There are a few vendors on the board that sell various seat covers.

Are you set on getting houndstooth style? or are you looking for specific year OE correct?

There were various cover options per year, and the cloth insert styles are typically expensive or not on vender shelves and have to be made.

The houndstooth style covers are sold by just about every vendor far as I know, so there is some shopping on your part to be done.

My 72 had the same covers as yours. I went all over looking for covers and ended up taking it to a shop to have them done. It's been a long time and a bunch of places sell great looking stuff for us.

Just remember that Suburban seats are different from truck seats.

Suburban seats have upholstered backs.

Truckseats is a vendor on this board and can fix you up.

A friend took a set down to a shop to have the covers installed and they added the cover on the back. Depends on what you are looking for. I think they sell the covers with the backs done. Can't hurt to ask. If not you could always do what all did and just have full covers made.

Zellway, man your seats look great. I don't think my budget will allow that to happen right now. I am going to see if I can find an upholstery guy I can barter with and show him yours as a goal.

Another question. I assume the lowering parts are the same for the suburb and as the trucks. If so any ideas about lowering blocks VS springs in the rear?

Blocks will be cheaper than springs especially if you source and drill your own blocks. U bolts can be pricey for a quality custom made bolt. I paid 50 to have to made You may be able to find online or the parts board here for a better deal however. Personally I would not go more than a two inch block in the rear. Anything bigger and you risk dragging the trailing arm in the event of a blowout. If you want more than a 2 inch drop I would look at Suburban specific springs. They can handle the extra weight of a suburban. GMC Pauls is one vendor that sells these springs. You can however use pickup rear springs but they may be softer and the rate of drop may be more than when used on a pickup.

Thanks guys! I've decided to just use the hounds tooth covers since they are easy to get any since Brothers truck parts is having a sale. I'll save $100 on the set. Can't pass that up.
