Black with cloth insert seats?

I went to look at my 72 burb today. Just doing some assessments. For some reason I was thinking the glove box door and spid were long gone, but it was sort of hanging there.

I know it sounds weird but Ive never paid any attention to the interior because it was a totally gutted. I knew there were seats for it somewhere, but wasn't worried because I have burb seats coming out of my ears. So if anything was missing I knew I had replacements.

It lists black seats with cloth. I don't think Ive ever seen this combo before. Anyone have a pic of one in nice shape? Seems like an odd choice with the body being white/med bronze/white.

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

Well Ill have to go out to where the burb is stored again and see if I can get to a seat to take a picture. I guess no one has one. Ive seen tons of black vinyl, or black with hounds tooth, just not this combo.

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

Cloth would have been standard with Custom Deluxe on a Suburban. The "All Vinyl" was an upgrade.

Someone must have ordered that special as I doubt it was a recommend combination.

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

Here's a thread with info on what I believe your original seat would have been. I got a sample of that black cloth material from SMS.

That was an excellent thread thanks!

Ive seen this design before, had it in another burb in green, and it matched the burb. Never had seen black though. And it seems like in my burb (without actually seeing it haha) it would look kinda funny.

I bet it would be huge bucks to source the material and have all three of my seats redone stock. Would look great if the burb was black.

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

Glad you found the thread interesting. Little details like the correct original fabric on the seats always looks cool to me. When I recover my bench seat I plan to go with either the factory standard vinyl or the black custom cloth.

My 72 Custom Deluxe had this seat...... my SPID says "black custom cloth"?
Got a new cover made with NOS cloth from CARS Inc.
Great looking cover, cant wait until I'm to the point of installing it.

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

Hey towbar, so CARS Inc. has the correct cloth pattern too? That'd be great since I've heard that SMS can be quite difficult to deal with.

Cericd: Yes, correct cloth pattern, with very nice scroll pattern in center of seat. Mine is black, don't know if they have other colors as well?? I can post some pics of the cover this evening if you like??

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

Thanks, pics would be great. Black is the color I would need. Did CARS Inc. make the cover or did you have someone local stitch it up?

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

I ordered it directly from CARS Inc, it was made to order so it took about a week before they shipped. CARS sales guy was very helpful in getting me what I needed, shared photos of the material and scroll pattern quality prior to my order.

I have to thank Tim (Truckseats) for finding this material for me. I originally was going to get him to stitch up a seat for me, however he could not get the material any more and was able to track down where the material went too then guided me to CARS Inc.

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

That looks great! I'm going to have to give them a call. Did they have you specify if you have the full foam seat? I know there were two options for the bench seats back when these trucks were new, standard which was not listed on the SPID and full foam which was listed as a line item on the SPID.

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

cericd: No, that was not a question that was ask by Cars Inc.

I understand the foam the same way you described it...if it was on the SPID, then it was full foam.....If not, then it was the standard foam. Being that this is an upgrade seat cover, and was on my SPID, so I didn't think much of it.

If its on your SPID, then this cover should be a correct fit. If yours is the STD seat, then a foam upgrade may be the option for this to fit yours??

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

The cover does have some additional foam in the areas of the cloth, but that's mostly as a backing for the cloth, and not so much as space filler.

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

Thanks for the pics and info towbar. Im a long way from being there, and not sure that is the way Im going to want to go (still might even let the burb go), but I'm going to call them up anyway and get a quote on the suburban seats.

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

If I can go off on a Tangent here...
Is there a source for the cloth material that was used on the original seats?
Or, is there a company that makes the original cloth/vinyl seat covers?
My 70 originally this type seat cover, and would liksome day to get my buckets done in the same pattern.

Re: Black with cloth insert seats?

Not on a tangent. A couple of sources for the material, and sources that make the covers are here in this thread.
