Re: Crossover steering question

My other question is if its wrong that the draglink hits the right leaf spring when the right side of the truck drops. Did I do something wrong or is this normal?

Get on parts mike's website and buy his 1/2 inch spacer for the crossover arm. Do your arms have 3 or 4 holes? When you put the studs in the knuckle did you put the shorter threads in the knuckle or the longer threads in the knuckle? The first crossover steering i did on a chevy was in 1997 and i cut my arm out of 1 inch cold roll with a torch....

Re: Crossover steering question

id try and avoid contact by changing the shape of the draglink.

on a 60 it has four holes, in a square pattern. a dana 44 has three holes in a banana lookin pattern lol.

the shorter side tends to go in the knuckle, and it pretty much will only fit one way.

Re: Crossover steering question

Ord has two different steering arms one is for a dana 44 knuckle the other is for a reid racing dana 44 replacement knuckle huh lol....

The threads are the same on both ends of the stud, so it will go in both ways, if you put the long side down the spacer won't fit , if you put the shorter threads in the knuckle the spacer will fit.

That was my point all along, every truck I’ve seen converted to crossover steering ends up with noticeable bump steer. Some more noticeable than others but they all have it to a certain degree, which is exactly why I did not do crossover on any of my rigs. Crossover is perfect for a dedicated trail rig but maybe not so much on something that rides the highways a lot too. Not sure there is much you can do to make it go away.
Boy, I am sure glad I found this thread!

5 years later, still feel the same Larry?

My steering box is pretty worn out, so I'm scheduling some steering upgrades. I was sure that crossover was the way to go, but now you got me questioning that. I put a lot of highway miles on my rig and any wheeling I do is going to be pretty tame.
