97 Tahoe evaporator replacement?

Anyone done this job? I have a leak and cant find it anywhere. that's the only place left I cannot see.. I replaced the compressor some time ago and charged the system to only leak out with in two days. All other fittings look clean and free of oil.

How much work is it to even inspect the evaporator?

Thanks for any help with this one.. Summer is coming fast!!

Re: 97 Tahoe evaporator replacement?

You can check with either a "sniffer" used in the vents or pressure and dye.

You can also get to the ends of the evaporator and try applying vacuum to one end and plug the other. Use a rubber cork available at any good hardware store. With a plastic hose barb in one cork, use a mity-vac hand vacuum pump.

I do have dye in the system, but cant see it anywhere. The only place I cant see is in the evap area. I dont have a sniffer to use.

Re: 97 Tahoe evaporator replacement?

It will lose vacuum fairly quick.

Re: 97 Tahoe evaporator replacement?

I understand the system looses vacuum. What I explained before was use 2 rubber corks and a hand vac at the 2 evaporator connections. Not to vac the entire system. Get it?

In this way you check only the evaporator before you waste time pulling it for nothing.

Now do you understand?
