Also found a shop here in town that shortens driveshafts for a really reasonable $65, and around $125 I think for aluminum (no warranty on aluminum mods on used shafts). They'll custom build a new driveshaft for you for $250 in steel and $400-$500 range for aluminum. Columbus Joint and Clutch. Then I just need to get the dial indicator to measure if I have any runout from my crank centerline to the bellhousing register for the transmission input bearing retainer, fab up a rear trans crossmember, and then get a speedometer adapter for the Tremec from the ford style to GM cable.

Hey guys I'm helping a friend with his clutch on the same rare 305 v6 and we got the same wrong parts. Can you guys tell me what you ended up using. I cant find anything that works. Thanks.

If you search 6066GMCclub.com, you'll find that the AMS Rhinopac 04-528 is the one to use. Don't use the Perfection brand that fits most of the same applications, as it will not fit the gmc. Use this brand only. Or just get the original clutch and pressure plate remanufactured. Hite Parts Exchange did an excellent job remanufacturing mine.

Just did this folks. The AMS Clutch kit has the Same issue the rest do. But the nub on the flywheel side is not quite as tall. You will find that machining it down provides better results. Ask me how I know. Everything else is perfect except the disc. Also be aware that the clutch fork and throw out bearing have to also be in while you install the trans. Unless you have someway of collapsing the fingers. Due to the stupid small bell housing design Nothing is somewhat easy to install.

But when done the results are nice.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately the shop that rebuilt the engine tossed out all the clutch parts and gave us new parts that dont fit. Now we're blindly trying different parts to see what works.

someone should have some cores that you can get rebuilt. you might ask over on the GMC site. ther should be 305s sitting around that still have clutches on them.
it is the chevy bellhousing mounts that you can use

You can get an AMS disc and then machine the nub down and it should work. Though I would recommend the whole kit so you have everything from one place. If I hadn't thrown my old disc away you could have had it for a rebuilable core, but I really don't know if it was rebuildable! haha It was pretty toasty.

I found a used clutch set if you are interested.the shop in the yard next to me has one. I got the engine him a few years back in case he ever needed another for his fork lift. A freind of mine had it before and put in a 350 with 4500 trans. he doesn't need the clutch as the forklift uses a different setup

Going through the same with my 60 GMC .. This was really helpful.... I am waiting for a disc part number from a shop that actually solved this for a client a year or so ago... If I get it I will post it...
