Went From Rally's to Steel Wheels/Hubcaps

This summer lowered my truck back to stock height and now I have changed wheels over to steelies with dog dish hubcaps. I definitely like stock height, but the steel wheels/hubcaps haven't grown on me 100% yet. Here is a before and after picture, any opinions....

Yes, 15x8 steelies, not sure what they were originally on. I'm not sure when GM started using an 8" wide steel wheel.

I never thought these trucks looked good with rallys. I sure like the stock look, but change out the caps for the blue bowtie ones instead of the 73+ style.

Like the stock height as well. I would go with the rally's instead though.

Re: Went From Rally's to Steel Wheels/Hubcaps

Try running the steelies without caps or with correct dog dish caps and see what you think.

I recently swapped rallies for 15x8 steelies on my Blue Blazer and am pleased. Springs are stock height. 33 x 10.5 BFG ATs

Prefer the after rather than the before: I don't much care for rallies.

Re: Went From Rally's to Steel Wheels/Hubcaps

I prefer the rally's. With that being said, I really like the rally wheels to begin with. I personally don't care for steelies other than with stock size tires/stock height, then I almost always prefer steelies….. Just my .02. It's your truck, run what you like!

Thanks for the input from everyone. The truck is a GMC so not to interested in the blue bowties.

Beautiful Blazer!! I'm not very versed on the dog dish hubcaps from our era of trucks, is that what is on your Blazer? If you happen to have a closer or more detailed photo of your wheels/hubcaps, I would love to see it.

IMO it's an improvement on your truck, by a lot.

Tim, the correct caps for your truck were made from 69-75,l think. This is a pic from eBay of one that needs the recessed area painted black. Truck looks really good- l like the steelies https://www.ebay.com/p/1969-1972-GMC...yABEgIGOPD_BwE

Re: Went From Rally's to Steel Wheels/Hubcaps

I like rallyes and OEM style wheels & caps. I find it amusing how some allow the later caps to bother them that much. They are very good looking hubcaps. I always thought they look better than originals. A very nice design, certainly not awful. I like the idea of running 'correct' caps so that is what I do now that the trucks are classics. But hubcap swapping among vehicles is an age old car & truck guy thing that goes way back before custom wheels when virtually every car and light truck, except dual wheel, had what we now call steelies with hubcaps or wheel covers. Those hubcaps look great. Don't bother me one iota. I'll be running '65 Pontiac hubcaps & 8" wheels on my '67 C1500 SWB. And that's the beauty of it. I also have the original style caps I can swap around as my mood dictates. One thing that does hang me up with hubcaps on my GMCs. I don't want any Chevy emblems on it. That bugs me way more than incorrect year correct brand. Chevys are so easy with the variety of car hubcaps that look way better than OEM truck caps

Re: Went From Rally's to Steel Wheels/Hubcaps

Very NICE truck and Blazer guys. I like rally wheels and wish either one of you were close enough and would sell me your take off set for my current project.

Lowering the GMC to sock ride height was a vast improvement in my opinion. I can dig the truck with either the steel or rally wheels but at stock ride height I think I actually like the steel wheels better.

Same goes for the Blazer. Even though I like rallys I think the steel wheels catch my attention even more. Maybe I am just getting nostalgic or something.

Thanks! Would be great to see these trucks parked side by side.

Here are some detail photos of the front and rear caps. The rear cap was a NOS painted piece that I had chromes and the front is a polished stainless piece. I didn’t have any original chrome fronts. Finish is a very close match between the two.

Re: Went From Rally's to Steel Wheels/Hubcaps

Personally I think rally Vs steel depends on the truck, stance etc. For instance, I think steel looks best on LWB & 4x4. Rallyy looks best on step side and SWB. Especially where SWB has a deluxe paint job and dropped.

The steel suits the OP truck "bigly" Looks fantastic with the white top.

Your truck looks very nice with those wheels at the stock stance. What size tires did you go with? Would you change the tire size if you had the chance or are you happy with the way it rides?
Thanks!

Re: Went From Rally's to Steel Wheels/Hubcaps

Thanks for all the comments and info, much appreciated. I pretty much have my truck back to stock appearance except for the taller/wider tires. I like the tires and sure don't want to spend the $ for different tires. I'll keep my eye out for a correct set of dog dish hubcaps.

The tires are 32x11.50 Cooper Discoverer's. I really like these tires, nice appearance and ride quiet. I chose the size due to adding 2" lift during my build. With 2" lift the tires showed to much space between top of tire and bottom of fender, in my opinion. Truck rides great, much better than with the Tuff Country soft ride leaf springs. I probably would have went with 31x10.50 tires if there had been no lift.
