Don't let this make you feel bad---But I hate you, for getting that car. That is the dream of many individual souls and that is the one to have. Great catch Dude.

Re: My early Christmas present..64 Chevelle SS

Arise, thread from the dead! I had a '64 Chevelle SS 283/PG/AC car, bought in '70 from the Chevy dealer I worked at. Sold it the day before I joined the Navy. I really wish I hadn't.

The SS package in that time frame was gauges, bucket seats and SS trim, and yes, could be purchased with a 6 cylinder. My dad worked as inspector in the Van Nuys GMAD. One SS Camaro came through, was reported low on power. It had every available option...and a 250 CI 6. It was a real sled, purchased by some old guy who just liked the SS look.

Re: My early Christmas present..64 Chevelle SS

I don.t know how you guys do it! A bought a '64 ss when I got out of the service in 1968. It had the 6cyl and powerglide trans. The original owner opted to with the 194cu instead of the 250cid. I had it for a couple of years before the kids came along, then I had to sell it. I hated to do it but being a
20 something with two kids, it had to go

Thumbs up Re: My early Christmas present..64 Chevelle SS

From what I have learned with my 64 SS Impala all matching numbers car until 65 was the last year for the 6 cylinder motor in a SS. The SS badge was for any car that had marked the option, motor are any other option had nothing to do with it.
If you look into it a bench seat SS car is worth more than the same car with bucket seats because less cars where ordered with a bench seat and the SS package.

Yes I swapped wheels. I have the wheels in my shop with the hub caps as well.

A good site for info and several of the members are members here as well.

The options were even rated as far as dominance. SS was a "higher" level than RS for example.
In cars where both were available, like Camaros, if you had both onel the SS badges were installed. Z/28 did even more, you could get RS with Z/28 because RS is just a trim package that did not interfere with the Z/28 stuff. However you could not get SS and Z/28 together since both were performance options that would exclude each other....
In the early years Z/28 forced the delete of:
Automatic transmission
Air-conditioning
Convertable top
any other engine options

Like I said, I am not as familiar with the earlier years...............but still doubting.
Wrong sir the Z 28 opition did not delete the auto or AC. My mom had a 68 396 with both. She couldn't drive a stick, both her 67/68 where auto. Not sure about the AC in the 67 but the 68 had it I know.

I'm pretty sure all first generation Z 28's were manual, 4 speeds with the 302 zappers.

When the next generation of Camaro's came out in 70', they started to include an automatic option to my knowledge.
These had the slightly bigger 350 LT1's in them.
...but the 1st generation Z's (302's) were all standards.

All good

Interesting thread. A Chevelle posted on a truck site, prompting lots of bogus info, the OP lets the thread die, and Ole Steve resurrected it and I am inserting my wife's 65 Chevelle, which has nothing to do with 64's or Christmas.

I think there was another post directly above mine that prompted my "rise from the dead" comment. I wouldn't have gone digging up an 11 year old thread on my own. Next time I'll QFT.

That's one nice '65 you have there!

It's all good Steve. I tend to just ramble with no real point. My wife tells me to "Please just shut up" your welcome to do the same.

Although I did wonder how you ran across an 11 year old thread and, like Boog, I still wonder why the OP never came back.
