Replaced a couple of throttle bodies on these over the years (there was a TSB on them as I remember). Never any wheel bearing issues, but all I work on are 3/4 and 1 tons.

Re: Are you guys as disappointed with 07 and up chevy trucks as i am?

Don't forget the drive shaft clunk when coming to a stop.
The leaking master cylinders into the brake booster.
The failing D.O.D. lifters ticking and eventually wiping out camshaft lobes.
Dash lights and gauges cut out randomly.
Door locks rattling.
Taillights full of moisture.

Just the common stuff seen at the dealer.

Re: Are you guys as disappointed with 07 and up chevy trucks as i am?

Well let me think........For the most part now a days, my answer would be that I`m happy with my late 07, 126000 mile nbs. I purchased mine new with 40 miles on her in 07. Now I`ll give an overview. I have had the mirror issue but it was repaired, I had an issue with the grill with the chrome peeling, replaced no problem. I do have the dash cracking/splitting issue but it didn`t happen until it had 90,000 or so. I`ve had 2 major issues 1- the sun roof, my truck was one of the first built with the sun roof. It leaked and leaked, it was at the dealer, leaked, leaked, etc. Well the dealer kept it for a couple of weeks an engineer came in, we talked and the stamping process had an issue with not cleaning out chips, clogging the roof drains. O.K. repaired. Next major issue... rear gears, at 83K It needed the rear pinion/gears/bearings replaced due to whining, well at 94K I took it back in for the same issue, low and behold the service writer stated that the factory had used inferior parts, so no cost, I had the extended warranty and powertrain covered it anyway. Fuel mileage is ok, drivability still good. Really one shouldn`t complain much as my wife`s 2010 GMC Acadia is truly a piece of crap, many recalls, trips for repairs, and I`m on week 6 waiting for a backordered sensor. I need it to make it until next year and then it`ll go away. Maybe I`ll go Jeep Grand Cherokee. Peace Dale

Re: Are you guys as disappointed with 07 and up chevy trucks as i am?

I am kind of at a loss, here. My 2011 GMC has served me quite well for 147,000+ miles. I had a GM recall on the tranny dipstick, due to a issue that the GM engineers found with it cracking. I had to replace a seal on the rear axle at 100,000 miles. Heck from my world that is normal wear.

I get good mileage with the 5.3, 3:42 gear setup and I have no issues with the performance, but that can be attributed to my computer tune.

I did hit a deer a couple years ago, the body took the hit real well and only surface panels and a couple side airbags had to be replaced. It surprised me, that the framework of the truck is so strong in this day and age of trying to lighten up everything on the road.

Happy? YES, I am.

I would like my 2015 a little louder without voiding warranty.

Dennis, read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus...s_Warranty_Act

...and then put whatever catback exhaust makes you happy (Magnaflow, Borla, etc).

You can change the exhaust. The dealer will even sell you something to help, if you want to buy it at their price.

Re: Are you guys as disappointed with 07 and up chevy trucks as i am?

i had a 2009 Silverado 1500 Z71 crew cab for 1 year. very nice pickup, not impressive enough to keep. dash cracked out, consumed oil, even after i shut off the dod/afm garbage, and didn't make the mileage i expected. i did not however ever have to pull a wrench on it.

probably wouldn't own another one, but i prefer square bodies and the gmt400 platform anyways.

I am really satisfied with the performance and the durability. Hell, I even hit a deer a few years ago and the most expensive factory part was the two side airbags that triggered. We put it back together with all GM parts and I will put it up against any one truck coming off of the lot, today.

Re: Are you guys as disappointed with 07 and up chevy trucks as i am?

I have an 08 2500 extended cab sb 4x4 that's almost at 300,000 miles. Haven't had ANY trouble with it. It's had a hard life too, hauled loads that would have been better hauled with a semi. A cow broke the drivers side mirror off and a deer crunched the left front fender and grill. It has recently gotten a crack on the passenger side of the dash and that's about it. I have put headlight bulbs in it without taking anything apart and I have large hands, it could be easier to get to but I've seen worse.
I can't complain, it's been an excellent truck.

outlaw when you shut off dod/afm how much did mileage change? planning on this modification shortly. and one thing i hate more than anything is the auto door locks, drives me nuts. when stopped and put in park it only unlocks the drivers door instead of all four doors, can't tell you how many times i've gotten out and go to the opposite side or back doors to remove cargo only to have to walk back around to unlock them, pain in the rectal area to say the least.

It didn't change at all. And you should be able to change the settings on your automatic locks. There is a menu in the DIC that allows you to do just that.

actually all it allows me to change is whether it unlocks when put in park or when ignition is turned off. but no way to turn them off.

Re: Are you guys as disappointed with 07 and up chevy trucks as i am?

I just stumbled on this thread while searching for info on gms 6 speed trans. And as to the question on the 07 and up gm trucks I had an 08 gmc. I've only owned 2 lemon trucks in my life the rest I was very pleased with and I've bought a lot over the years. My 1986 gave me a fair amount of trouble. Engine rear end brakes etc etc. But my 08 was the worst disaster for a truck I've ever owned.
Transfer case engine ever seal that could leak did. Air leaks bad steering bad brakes the list goes on and on. First time in my life I was going to jump the fence and go ram. figured if I bought a dodge the lord may struck me dead after all the comments I've made over the years about Ford and dodge. So I ordered a 2015 2500 crew and thought if this ones bad maybe it will be time to change. I absolutely love this truck 94000 Kms on it and its superior to the 08. I'm as happy as a clam.

A couple years ago I bought an 08 ltz suburban with 138,000 miles. I have owned a few earlier 2000's chevy's with the 5.3 and have always had great luck with them. I didn't know anything about the cylinder deactivation issue with 07 an up 5.3. So when I bought the suburban, the last thing I was concerned about was the engine. Turns out that was the main thing I should have worried about. Research before buying is so important. Anyways, that 08 went through a quart of oil every thousand miles on average. I put 15k miles on it and then sold it. I ended getting most of my money back but oil consumption like that is unacceptable. It really was a great ride though. My 2000 suburban has 330,000 on it. Original transmission. Engine replaced at 282,000. It's too bad about that ltz. That thing was so nice but I am not into replacing engines. I am sure the new ones don't have that problem anymore but beware when buying a used 07, 08 or so.

Re: Are you guys as disappointed with 07 and up chevy trucks as i am?

LOVED my 2000 Z71. LOVED IT. Owned it from 2004-2015 when I traded it in. Other than maintenance (only ever did brakes once!) I had to swap out the 4wd switch and fix the tow/haul wires in the shifter (they crack and break from shifter movement). I kid you not, that's it. It did start consuming oil badly all of a sudden around 120K, I read up on it, put in a fixed orifice PVC like recommended and it used *maybe* an 1/8th of a quart between 4K mile changes.

Miss that truck, but this thread is for the 2007+ and so far I like the 2015 I bought brand new. First new truck I've ever owned. I've read up on the AFM and don't like it, so to keep it off I put the shifter in "M" and put it in "5th" gear. It's still like 20% OD and it turns the AFM off. My daily work drive is 8 miles of all 35-45 mph roads, so it works out great. I do let the AFM do it's thing on interstate drives and leave it in 6th, the 22mpg I'm getting highway is awesome. It has 15K so far. I do check the oil somewhat regularly, so far it doesn't use anything that's noticable.

It's pretty much parked from friday afternoon until monday morning as I drive "the toys" pretty much exclusively on the weekends.

Re: Are you guys as disappointed with 07 and up chevy trucks as i am?

I've enjoyed my 2010 extended cab since I bought it new. But now below the third brake light it is starting to rust. I've washed the truck religiously. And recently my transmission lines have started leaking and I need all 3 replaced. It only has 59,000 miles. The rattle with extended cab doors is annoying too. It gave me 5.5 years worry free up until I paid it off!

Re: Are you guys as disappointed with 07 and up chevy trucks as i am?

I can say that my 1999 5.3 auto had no oil leaks whatsoever from any seal with over 205k miles on it when I sold it...love that engine...the brake/fuel lines and cross-member placement on top of fuel tank totally different to say the least..completely rotten. think the lines were just bad metal..idk..but they all went too soon, even with the under-carrige wash I do religiously in the salt belt. I also barely drove this truck in winter months cause its a 2 wheel dr and as you guys know ..all over the road. All the heat/air controls went around 80k, radio knobs about same time. My sway bar broke at bolt attachment..Never had that one happen to me before..My sheet metal held up great, but again I washed/waxed this truck alot.. other than that , no real issues. Brake lines blew on me at redlights too btw..almost major accidents twice. My chevy mech bud said it was common, but chevy wont recall. Tryin to catch to e-brake with your leg isnt to easy...lol
