Re: FITech Experiences ?
Sure! I had another inquire in a PM as well as you...I'll just put the info here.
My thinking was the same. I wanted to not have to deal with mounting a second sensor somewhere, somehow & didn't want to start cutting on wiring on something before I ever used it...both for the possibility of there being a problem, it coming back to shoot me in the foot & also, there wasn't much wire there to "get ahold of" anyway. I started by doing a bit of research on the plugs. The "older" style TPS that looks somewhat like a triangle is what I mounted to the Q-jet years ago...it uses a regular 3 pin weatherpack plug (easy!). The male end to go into the sensor on the FItech proved to be an easy find as well. A quick stop @ my friend's mechanic shop scored me an injector harness from some V6 that had this plug & some correct colored wiring to boot. The female plug needed in which to plug the wires going to the FItech unit proved difficult to find. After exhausting GM wire pigtail charts, ect. I gave up & grabbed the TPS sensor from the same V6 fuel rail. (the "lollypop" type" of sensor) I carefully ground away the round part until I had three flat blade contacts sticking straight outward from the plug, found out which pin was for what (it was NOT as it seemed it would be. The center pin was NOT the center blade) & soldered the wires from the male plug end on. Then I formed up a mold out of a paintstick wrapped with duct tape in a square shape & carefully poured in Fusor heat-set plastic glue...insulating the three bare areas from each other & sealing up the whole deal. Simple huh? Works like a charm. All I had to do was re-establish what idle & full throttle voltage was in the transmission controller once it was up & running. If the harness/TPS plug you have for the trans. is the same plug as the FItech, you'll need to make a second one to plug the wires going to the transmission in unless someone can come up with a source/location that a female of that plug is available. Hope this helps! Lorne |

Re: FITech Experiences ?
I had to remove my unit finally after cutting out constantly and draining my battery. The hand held controller got so hot I could not hold it. No call backs from FT as of yet. At this point it is 4 months and $1200 wasted. Carb is back on and life has resumed as normal.

Or maybe just something in the settings parameters. Just change the fuel cut off to 0, and the engine couldn't start.

Re: FITech Experiences ?
Might be why holley took the time before releasing their sniper efi..
To make sure this, let the users be the beta testers didn't happen.. |

Re: FITech Experiences ?
If you google FiTech, the majority of users are reporting good success.
Summit users are giving it full stars.

Re: FITech Experiences ?
summit is great they gave me a full refund when i sent mine back after sending it to fitech 2 or 3 times the last time it went to fitech it sat there for a month before they replaced it for the 3rd time so when it came back from them i never even opened the box i sent it right back to summit. i wasn't happy with it even when it was working right imo smarter to buy a really good quality carb with new fuel lines and strong pumps

Re: FITech Experiences ?
I just ordered a Go EFI 4 600hp setup for my 454, a new fuel tank/sender for an 87 pickup from Rockauto and will be grabbing a Walbro pump very soon. I'm excited to get to work on it. At the same time, my 454 will be getting a set of 781 heads and a new cam (small Lunati grind).

Re: FITech Experiences ?
Mine works fine...they do require a fair amount of tweaking and tuning though. Don't believe the "throw it on and drive" hype. Still better than a carburetor though. Of course I'm the guy who put FiTech on a 5.3L with a carb intake, so my opinion is questionable LOL. Now that I've done that, they go and release a full kit with LS style intake, throttle body, harness, and computer for $1500. Now, if you ask me this is where the industry should be, improved stock-style FI with handheld tuning for a very fair price! The old kit might just have to come off and go on my small block truck and try the new one out.

Re: FITech Experiences ?
After all the issues posted here I went with the Holley Sniper. I waited about 6 months for them to get them out. It has been good so far and I had a couple of issues in the beginning and Holley was good about getting things sorted. Like others have said here none of these systems are bolt and go, and really not close to that if you want to do timing control. I would go look at the Holley support forums to get an idea of what folks are saying. The main thing seems to be high fuel pressure so like any other efi swap you have to be able to verify it from the beginning.
