Speedo Gear Reduction Adapter
I have a Stewart-Warner speedometer gear reduction adapter on my '54 Chevy truck that has been slowly leaking transmission fluid. It was present on the vehicle when I purchased it. After removing it I expected to find worn out O-rings on the two connection sites but none were present. Is that normal?...are O-rings not used in this application? If not, should some type of thread sealer be used on the connections when I re-install it? I have included several pics of the speedo adapter: one where it is installed and leaking, the remainder are of the unit after removal. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Re: Speedo Gear Reduction Adapter
The leak originates in the small oring inside the speedo bullet. THe atf tends to migrate thru the adaptor and up the cable. THe driven gear wears it out.
Here's a new bullet with the small oring. You can buy them seperate but likely easier to get all new. http://www.classictransmissionsoluti...ter-turbo-350/ Your local tranny shop should have them. Common item. |
