Re: 1971 c10 steering column help!!!

There is a spring & clamp that goes on the bottom of the shaft. Often the lower brg. gets stuck to the shaft & locks the shaft from coming up. The spring comes in a kit with the lower brg. & I think the clamp does too. Its been a long time since I did one but i'm pretty sure the clamp is included in the kit.

There should also be a big thick 1/4" +/- washer that goes at the bottom of the column

When you say you removed the "nub" are you referring to part that sticks out of the housing and holds the shift lever? If so what was you process if you don't mind me asking? Today I took the column apart from the Steering wheel to the dash to replace the upper bearing and the rubber seal at the dash. Mine was a three on the tree and will be 4 on the floor. I was thinking of looking for a housing that came on a factory 4 speed or possibly removing the "nub" but wasn't sure how to proceed. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks again for posting your process. Gave me the "nerve" to remove the nub, came out better than expected!
