Locking Hubs

My 82 still has the automatic locking hubs. I am looking at these below.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MMK-104/

Anyone using these? How are they? Is there any speacial parts or suggestions to make the swap easier? Or if there is a better recomendation I would be gratefull. Thanks

Re: Locking Hubs

Did you convert to them from the auto locking hubs? Do I need any adapter kits or anything?

Re: Locking Hubs

It depends if your truck has a full tie 4wd transfer case. Like NP203's need a kit instaled to be part time. With the hubs they were a straight install.

Re: Locking Hubs

No I have a NP208. So if I understand you correctly I can just go buy the hubs and swap them out no problem correct?

No "converting" required, it's a simple remove and install type of thing.
The trucks that require the tranfercase "kit" do not have the automatic hubs. The transfercase is completely different.

Nope will more than likely chunk them. It will be a few weeks before I swap them I like to research before I start somthing helps prevent unexpected expenditures.

Re: Locking Hubs

Was going to get the hubs swaped a few months ago but a couple of root canals and a car accident has prevented me from doing so. A buddy has a set of these http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MMK-302/ he will give me for nothing but I'm concerned the plastic/nylon dial will not hold up as its metal counter part like these
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MMK-104/. Should I go ahead with the free ones or buy the ones I had planned on?

Re: Locking Hubs

Personally I'd go for free, change them later if it becomes a problem.
My old factory Spicer's had plastic dials and are still going.

Re: Locking Hubs

All the 71/72 K/20s I've had still had the plastic knob Spicers they had since new. Free is good.

Re: Locking Hubs

Yeah, what they said. Seriously, the plastic part is not a strength issue. It just pushes the meshing gears together, they take the load.
