Re: Low budget Garage build "Ted"

put the evaporator in and laid down some insulation/sound deadener. took apart my gauge cluster and cleaned and painted it. rolled the miles back, kinda feel weird about doing that now. this pick up will never be sold so it shouldn't matter, right???

put my RetroSound Hermosa radio in

Huge improvement! Good work! Regarding your sig: My 17 yr old would do just about anything, legal or not, to have his uncle's 06 3/4 ton CC Duramax.

Re: Low budget Garage build "Ted"

2 questions!!

can this be fixed???

AND

would any of you guys attempt to patch it yourself if it were yours??

i dropped my gas tank off to be cleaned. when i picked it up this week the guy told me it was shot and i need a new one. i got to a stopping point today with my wiring and wanted to fill it up with water to see how bad it was. found this one hole.

Re: Low budget Garage build "Ted"

last i posted i had a hole in the gas tank.
welded it up then POR15-ed it
installed my dash cluster
installed my carpet ACC.
tried my hand at some carpentry skills and built an "under the bench seat sub box" with an idea i borrowed from chevy72blu.
set my seat frame in and did a little mod to the frame to clear the box. system sounds GREAT!!! exactly what i was looking for. 6.5kickers in the kick panels from restrosound and 10" sub with amp under the seat.

Re: Low budget Garage build "Ted"

no way to get over being scared to death about painting than to just do it right????
this has been intimidating me for so long. i guess you can always sand it off and try again....
did my hood a couple of days ago. painted/cleared the whole pickup today. ill need to knock down the orange peel in a few days.

i am not too happy with the paint job.... there is some tiger striping. for my first paint job though (i reckon it turned out ok), i should get over it i guess.

i'm looking forward to wet sanding in a couple of days....

sounds like listening to 80's country and beer and sanding are in order for me

Re: Low budget Garage build "Ted"

Steven,

I think the paint looks great!

Like you said, not too bad for your first paint job.

You should be on the streets pretty soon.

Re: Low budget Garage build "Ted"

Thank you guys so much!! Compliments from you guys who I have read your build thread's means a TON!!

....again, the thought of sanding a fresh paint job scared the crap out of me. so, I got over it and started....sanding a fresh paint job hahaha

Started on the drivers side behind the rear wheel just in case I screwed up. "nobody looks there right"? Turned out pretty good so I kept going around to the passengers side. Stayed under the body line. I will get to the "big" areas tomorrow. I know it sounds stupid but I wanted to practice on the lower areas before I got to the bigger ones 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, Maguiars swirl remover 2.0, Maguiars show car glaze ( i think that's what it was).....huge difference!!!! I was very pleased with the outcome and am looking forward to tomorrow. Should be a totally different look. I did notice i didn't get full coverage in a couple of spots near the rockers. If anybody looks under there then that will give me an excuse to kick them in the arse.

I was screwing around with my phone and added the "start" for my own reference.

Re: Low budget Garage build "Ted"

This has been a great learning experience for me. I am fairly mechanically inclined but the painting thing has always intimidated me. I read and read and read the threads here and watched a lot of you tube videos. Just getting out in the garage and getting started was the only way to really learn.

you can do it!!!
