Carlisle Truck Nationals Aug 3-5

Making my first trip to Carlisle truck nationals in a few weeks. Wasn't sure I would go until I saw that they're doing a indoor display in honor of Chevy trucks 100 year anniversary (member robs71 will have his 69 panel in the display)Planning on meeting some of the members of this fine forum on Saturday and sharing our love for these trucks. Anyone that can make it is welcome to meet up as a group, if possible (in another thread special K suggested a frozen custard run later Saturday). Hope to see you there.

If anyone needs some parts hauled to or from Carlisle, I could do that. I’m 30 miles south of Ft Wayne and could meet between someone along the way also

Re: Carlisle Truck Nationals Aug 3-5

That is a great offer there Tigger. I hope we get good weather, too. In the years I have set-up there were have had rain twice. Once was the thunderstorm that came through while GR8 68 and I were out for dinner and one year it rained a good bit of one day. Weather is so weird this year, who knows what will happen. Normally it is dry, though.

Here are some pictures from over the years. My spot of coarse Rob, I didn't see the picture with a bunch of us with the chicken

You have a hike ahead of you. I went to school at that vocational school in van wert years ago. If you see any rally wheels layin along the road they are probably special K’s I figure if I drag them behind the old buggy they will get polished up quite nicely. They should outlast the #9 wire that I will attach them with. If I can’t find someone to take them off the truck, I may just load it on the trailer and he can can take them off how he likes. I know I probably won’t do it according to his instructions. Torch? Swing press? angle grinder? The list goes on and on

Re: Carlisle Truck Nationals Aug 3-5

I'll just torch the truck away. A heap of work, but hey... I get my rallyes!!

I know... I know. That would be very foolish, as in duh? Are you really having a problem getting them off? It's a pain plus takes up more space, but maybe it makes more sense to just give me the whole truck. I don't mind, just want to make things easy as possible for you. You can take whatever beer is left in the cooler home with you. Sound fair?

Re: Carlisle Truck Nationals Aug 3-5

I am planning on heading there from upstate NY. I am hoping to find a nice drivers door and a nice left front fender. No rust and no radio speaker holes. Anyone planning to be there with these items? And perhaps a repro or extremely nice driver's side SWB bedside only. Thanks.

Good idea! It would be neat to have some sort of simple cook out one evening as things slow down.

Re: Carlisle Truck Nationals Aug 3-5

I didn't make the toboggan. I found it years ago in a thrift shop. It was actually this sandwich shop owned by a very interesting Eastern European man and his wife. He started out like a convenience store around 1972, but went with just sandwiches (killer) and milkshakes (wife made). He used the extra space for storage and had his own yard sale going on. I bought a lot of cool vintage things there. I'll bring it. I've heard "could sell ice cubes in hell" but never "...a toboggan in July"

Well, it's a week away so hard to say. That flooding I believe is residual to the rain that ended last night. The forecast for today was sunny and 87, tomorrow partly sunny 86

Re: Carlisle Truck Nationals Aug 3-5

My spot is on high ground. I only see the grounds get muddy along the edge of the pavement where water is held. The whole place sits on shale. They show light rain, not thunderstorms, so might just be something set in and drizzly damp. Not perfect weather but could be better than too damn hot. We had a rainy year back a while and it still went pretty well I thought. It's summertime, a little rain won't hurt. Bring extra changes of clothes! My neighbors behind me are great people... and they have a big circus tent!

Anyone coming from the west may want to try to make time to stop by the flight 93 memorial. It's roughly 2 hours west of Carlisle and about 20 north of I-70/76. I'm planning on checking it out on Sunday

Probably a long shot, but anyone heading up that wants to sell a decent cab, would love to find a workable 67 small window. And a SWB stepside box/ bedsides.
