2000 Tahoe, stuck in park.

Hey all. I have a friend who owns a 2000 Tahoe that occasionally gets stuck in park. It seems to happen more in hot weather for some reason. Yesterday evening when we were getting out of work, it got stuck. He got a ride, then came back a few hours later. It was nice and cool, he jumped in truck and it worked fine. ??? Has anyone else ever experienced this? What causes it?

Thanks!
jc

Re: 2000 Tahoe, stuck in park.

Look under the 'hoe at the shift linkage, it could be getting jammed.

Also, if they're the type of person who rests their arm on the auto shifter while driving, it may need a couple parts replaced?

It could also be the ignition switch (key) getting worn... or....it could be the neutral safety switch going bad? *IF* there is one, I have no idea where it is located.

Just tossing out ideas, I've never heard of this before (and I frequent GM-Trucks.com)

I can't think of any logical reason why it would go into gear in cool weather and not hot???

My wife's 4Runner won't come out of park if the brake light fuse is blown.

Try turninng the steering wheel back and forth when it happens again and try turning the key at the same time .May just need a little lube on the tumbler

Also, if it is a situation where the shift lever will not come out of park when stepping on the brake pedal… The issue could also be the automatic transmission shift lock actuator sticking. I have heard of this before especially in hot weather. All the plastic stuff in these newer trucks act funky in the hot weather. The clutch pedal in my Silverado squeaks like hell in the hot weather too.
