Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

I will be replacing pics messed up by photobucket

Cut down your factory bench to make "factory buckets " That fit and fold forward using 2 - '67 bench seats and the original seat tracks that will mount in the factory outside holes and sit in the factory position and level . Also all the springs cut out from the center section can be used to repair any broken springs you may have ....Factory Buckets ! I will post how to rebuild all the foam and customize it to 2014 comfort and how easy they mount also building custom "real leather" seat covers from scratch .And yes you can make the '68-'72 factory seats fold forward too !

I'll be replacing pictures messed up by photobucket .

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Do you have to use two '67 bench seats or will any year work that have the springs?

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Great idea. I've never seen anyone do it before.

The thing that makes me nervous is the lack of headrests. Get rearended and your (and mine since I have a factory bench) head snaps back. Whiplash

That's a heck of an idea, seems like a bit of work, would be great to see how you make out.

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Any bench seat with a steel frame can be cut and re welded to build the "factory frame buckets" Actually the full foam seats are easier to cut down . One of the hidden benefits is the springs on the outside edges are usually the ones broken and when you cut the center sections out you have all the strongest "center" springs to repair the damaged ones you need to sit on in your new "buckets" Over the next 2 weeks I'll post pictures as I have time to work on them ,Any of the '68-'72 bench seats can also be made to fold forword if needed . I'm Buying all the seats I can find to build a few sets of these to trade or sell for other parts I want . It's only metal till you drive it down the road , Then it's a truck ...

The first seat I cut down and tack welded in 1 1/2 hours, I'm going to add headrests and a inside armrest to the frames before re upholstering them , I have been building custom interiors for 35+ years they will be custom show quality ...

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

I had been wondering for a while if this was possible, I'm glad to see it done!

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

The best part of using the factory bench to build the buckets is the outside seat track bolts right back where it came from and by using the factory tracks the cut down frame sits perfectly level on the floor pan , At the correct height with the correct angle ,it's almost like Chevy may have planned buckets but never carried the idea out . The seat track handle to move the seat forward and back can be flipped over and moved to the outside and the handle and tracks will look and work perfect for the passenger side

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

I could build a set of these for less than the cost of buying a set of aftermarket buddy buckets and having them recovered , SMS carries the plaid materials and correct grain/color vinyl can be bought . Hmmmm

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

I always liked the look of the 2001 Audi TT quatro leather seats ,I have a couple of saddle colored leather hides about the same shade as the seats with the rawhide edge lacing I think some seats and a custom built console using this design would look great in a '67 ,The bolsters on the seat bottom will have to be a little lower due to the seat height and being able to easily get in and out of the truck I like the western "saddle " style the lacing gives them .And whats the sense of spending big money to lower and improve the suspension of your truck if your slapping from side to side in the cab going thru the corners ? What do you think ?
