question about options codes

i know that this has probably been asked before, but i can't find it. anyhow, from looking at quite a few glove box options lists, i've noticed that there are some that have 6 characters (1 digit, 3 letters for option code, 2 more characters). sometimes the first digit is a 1, sometimes a 0, sometimes a 4, (you get the point), and the last 2 characters are any combination of A-Z. some might even be numbers. my question is, what do they mean? i know that the second, third, and forth, are the actual code, but what about the rest? are they significant? when redoing the specs list, should i worry about having them on there? here are a few pics of what i'm talking about.

We have discussed this in depth. We decided that the first number was how many beers the guy typing had before lunch, and the last two letters were the initials of the closest person in the room at the time.

Nobody knows.
