Rochester B initial settings help needed

Got my distributor stabbed and worked through my ignition switch issues on the 67 and got her to start with the help of the fine folks on the forum... Now on to my carb issues. Got a kit put in but not sure it's adjusted correctly. When it starts it revs up real high... I can shut it down with the throttle but it doesn't want to idle very long. Does anyone know the start up settings for the adjustment screws?

So cool. This thing has set for 15 years and my son and I actually got to hear it wake up today. I'm excited

Thanks !

Re: Rochester B initial settings help needed

first off ether your Idle (throt. stop) screw or the choke (high idle) screw is screwed in to far.
First. make sure the throttle stop screw is set close. Make SURE that choke is not engaged. loosen screw on drivers side that pushes on the throttle linkage. once it no longer touches the linkage stop. Look down the top and make sure that the blades are fully closed.
Then screw it in about 1/4 turn past touching.

Second. adjust choke idle screw on lower right side. same way.

Third. screw both idle mixture screws all the way in (gently). Then out 2 turns

This should make it run and idle near normal. After you get everything adjusted don't forget to adjust choke (high idle) for proper cold weather warm up.

Are you sure it's a modle B carb? Also is it manual choke cable, automatic?

You can also google it and look in images for linkage pictures.

I have a monojet manual choke on my 68 GMC.

No I'm not 100% sure. It's a manual choke

Your fast idle kickup lever is upside down. You should have a bracket to hold the caseing on the choke cable. It mounts under the screw by the end of the caseing. That is a model B carb. It does not have a separate adjustment for idle speed & fast idle.

I'm not familiar with the model B and how it goes on our trucks but you will have to rig up a clamp for the choke cable. Maybe a small strip of metal shaped like a 'U' and drill a hole for the bolt to go through it.

Here's a couple pics of my 68 monojet choke clamp.

Re: Rochester B initial settings help needed

I recently rebuilt a few model B's.

There is supposed to be a tab like these to mount the choke cable too:

You can kinda see how that fast idle thing is supposed to be from these. Seems I don't have a good picture of it:

But this guy does:

Enjoy!

An internet search brought me back to this forum. This link takes you to the bottom of a April/May thread.

Pictures posted there by Sharps40 shows the choke cable bracket and the fast idle arm. Other pictures are on the thread.
